I have seen a lot of good in Henderson this season. I thought he would be wasted were he's playing now. However my eyes must be deceiving me because time after time we get torn apart through the middle in an area he is supposed to be policing.
I'm don't pretend to be a tactical genius myself but clearly some part of his play is lacking. Or are we going wrong in other areas that explain these goals.

Read John Barnes book about why he was so good at LFC it's because we got the ball to him quickly and early in wide positions so he could get to byline

We are too slow in all positions, teams can't cover width of pitch so defend the tramlines on 18 yard box and this frees up wide areas. It's about moving the ball quicker into those areas so that you are putting in dangerous threatening ball from nearer the byline

Again look at our goals v Chelsea and Swansea and those we scored in December. Huge amount of them came from wide positions near byline
John Barnes is head and shoulders above anything we have at LFC and the game has evolved since then but I do get what you're saying. We are so slow and ponderous on the ball, it's infuriating and easy to set us against. The worst for me is how slowly the defence is to release the ball into the forward areas, they are all terrified on the ball. Mig to Lovren, Lovren to Klavan or Matip, Matip to Clyne, Clyne back to Mig, Mig to Milner etc etc and by the time Henderson or Wini get the ball there are 2 banks or 4 infront of them or at that stage we have given the ball away. I wouldn't exactly say our midfielders are quick to release to ball either, mostly goes side to side.

For me though, I do think we get into great positions in the wide areas. Clyne and Milner both have amazing engines and get up into great positions but Clyne's crossing more than often really disappointing, 2 assists this season and only 2 last season. For a guy that gets up the pitch so well, his end product is just not there. I like Clyne as a defender but attacking wise, it just doesn't happen for him. Milner's crossing is one the best aspects of his game but lately he can't even beat the first man, looks exhausted. Teams know he'll inevitably cut back inside to his right foot so it's easy to close him down & he has no pace either. Sure we have zero aerial threat in the box anyways if the ball does make it in.

I don't know if Klopp's tactics have been found out or whether he just doesn't have the personnel to pull off what he wants, maybe a bit of both but whatever it is it is not working and we need to change something.

        Ultimately Liverpool have mid-season slumps.

It doesn't seem to matter who the manager is or who the players are, we always seem to have a mid-season slump.

I happened regularly with Houllier, it happened regularly with Benitez and even happened with Rodgers.

I like Kloppy and think he's a good fit for us but how as a football club we avoid these slumps in the future I'm not sure about.

The week before last was the worst week I can remember as a supporter. Our title bid ended with the home defeat to Swansea. Our League Cup chances ended with the home defeat to Southampton and our FA Cup hopes were blown out of the water with the home defeat to Wolves.

A terrible week with all home defeats and all to no mark teams. It's all very depressing

Barnes was miles better than what we have now. But Barnes became a better player at Liverpool because he was given the ball early.

The game hasn't evolved that much the fundamentals still apply in fact with the increased pace of the game I would argue that the fundamentals are even more important now

The passing of the defence and midfield is too slow as you have said

There's 2 reasons you want width and to switch the play quick. Defending balls from nearer the byline are a nightmare and 2 it drags players out from their tramline of the box positions and should create space in the middle

For me when Clyne and Milner get to the byline they are effective in creating chances. When they are asked to cross from deeper (ie the edge of the box) they are not

It's all very frustrating, having Clyne IMO is a very good defender but who isn't great going forward and Milner who is a right footed midfielder playing at LB as your primary source of width, isn't really ideal.... especially when our system has been found out. Mane can't be the only other one expected to provide this function.

It's all gone very wrong for LFC and Klopp, the next few weeks will certainly tell what the manager is made of.

Personally we haven't got the personnel to change tactics

Tempo is the issue for me more than anything

Maybe but surely that should have been looked at in the summer. Liverpool have a tendency to leaving them selves short of players ever season. You would think at some point the lightbulb must go on.

One things for sure, we can't keep going on as is, something has to give whether it's change in formation or personnel.

I said in the summer that I was worried we hadn't done enough work in the transfer market

Some on here used our good form to rubbish that theory but that good form was just papering over the cracks and hiding the lack of depth in the squad

yeah same here, I do think Klopp much like Pep has under estimated the rigours of the premier league.

Me too. Was happy to be being proven wrong. Means I'm more worried now than some though cos the worries were there initially.
                        3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Klopps style of gegenpressing and quick transition on the turnover doesn't work when you have 80% possession!

The quality of coaches must be really poor in the Bundesliga because it only took a season here for teams to work out how to counter the tactic that has served him so well for over 10 years in Germany.

To only have a couple of chances with 80% possession is ridiculous.

We need to risk losing possession with more risky and faster movement but we can't because whenever we lose possession we concede a goal!

You cannot pass around a box defense and expect openings to appear. We need more one on one dribbling attempts into the box.

There should certainly be a route for them to come through. But whilst you do this, your rivals are buying the finished article and winning things. Being an arsenal fan must be like groundhog day every season. I don't want us to follow suit. Maybe I'm wrong and klopp is itching to sign players. I'm going by a few comments he himself has made.

Basically in a must have world, I'm sick of ****ing waiting. I'll admit it. I want it all now. Where as I don't think it's ever coming.
A stubborn Klopp would have stuck by Karius.

We should just kick the ball to their goalkeeper and sit back.

                              Seriously.

When Brendan Rodgers joined LFC, he was the Northern Irish Guardiola and we didn't need a big lump like Andy Carroll because we would be playing tippy-tappy-tika-taka football and our movement was going to wow the whole country. He even let Carroll go on loan because he was so surplus to requirements and BR started his first season with Borini as the main striker. Sturridge arriving the following Jan.

Fast forward 3 years, then Brendan realised that teams would just put 11 men behind the ball and we wouldn't be able to open the door. So he went and spent 32.5m on Benteke.

Klopp is now realising the exact same lesson that Rodgers had. We will struggle to break teams down when they put 11 men behind the ball. If I was an opposing manager, the message would be simple. 2 banks of 5 lads and let them have as much possession as they want in front of us.

Against Swansea, there were actually some brilliant crosses played in from wide areas......it's just a pity that we didn't have anyone on the end of them.

If we manage to get top 4 this season, then someone like Lukaku would be brilliant signing for us. Can play with the ball at his feet, has pace and good in the air..... get him to press and he would be perfect for us. Would piss off the toffees as well....
