Ok so you're not a wind up which is good, you've clearly misread my post then. I never said he was better than Clyne, what I actually said was that Clyne is a better defender and Coleman is better going forward

Would not take Coleman over Clyne though. Coleman is a good full back no doubt, but for me he has only one thing in his locker that Clyne does not, and that is being a goal threat.

Coleman will usually chip in with a few goals each season, whereas with Clyne the act of scoring a goal is a rare thing, but outside of that I would not see Coleman as an upgrade on Clyne in any other department.

In terms of being a defender Clyne is the more solid and dependable imho (something you have said tbf), and in terms of corssing stats, key pass stats etc., Clyne matches if not betters Coleman on a regular basis.

If we did not have Clyne then I would be happy to see Coleman play for us, but not a chance I would have him over Clyne. Clyne is a machine of a player and is just so damn reliable in his role.

If anything I think Clyne would be a far more effective player if we had a midfield that could get the ball to him quicker once Clyne has made a run (could say the same for Milner actually). That way Clyne could hit early crosses from the byline (something he does very well) rather than having to wait an extra pass or two for the ball to reach him on the right flank and then having to put in a cross from the edge of the box into a stack of bodies.
I said Clyne was a better defender & all I said was that Coleman is better going forward, you get alot more productivity out of him which is true and proven by his stats over the last few years.

I like Clyne he's a defender first and foremost that is has been asked to provide an attacking threat down the right. He has a ridiculous engine and gets into fantastic positions but I do feel he can improve on his quality of delivery. Lec was saying similar about getting the ball out wide quicker, we do move it so painfully slow.

I guess the only reason we're even talking about Clyne is other teams are only allowing our full backs time on the ball and our forwards are massively underperforming.

Bigger problems than a reliable full back IMO.

But there are about 6 or 7 positions in the team that need to be upgraded first.

Goalkeeper, one center back, a left back, a holding midfielder, a left winger and a striker........Sort out all those positions and it will make more of a difference to the team.

We all complained about Johnson, great going forward, **** defender. Now we seem to have the opposite according to some.

Ah, Glen had all the moves. The cut inside, the pretending to go wide and then cutting inside, the pretending to cut inside before pretending to go wide and then cutting inside. You just never knew how he was going to cut inside.

Sakho and Matip would have been an incredible partnership.

I wish Jurgen had been willing to give him a chance. He was obviously working hard after his demotion and whilst I understand a hard line taken to show discipline, it feels like cutting your nose off to spite your face when we have the squad we have.

Getting rid of your 2nd best defender and ending up playing with Lucas as cb is one of the reasons we are struggling now.

I said the same thing in the Hull post match thread - fair enough if he stepped out of line and that is the end of the road for him but not replacing him was either severe negligence or arrogance on Jurgen's part - I know he is a great coach but believing he can turn Lucas into a CB in one of the most physical leagues around is a bit too much.

Something out of his control has been the constant chopping and changing in defence (injuries, ACON and loss of form) - if we just had a consistent back 6 (inc GK + DM) if would make such a difference.

For me a new GK, CB, LB and maybe a DM are a must - get a settled back line and stick to it.

Chelsea are going great since they changed to 5 at the back but their players are constants so playing together helps them build the understanding - added to that Courtois behind + Kante/Matic in front would make any defence better!

Yeah, I would love to see us get a proper DM. I don't think we will though

Matic and Kante are fantastic cover for the defence at Chelsea. Kante was phenomenal against us.

I miss Mascherano, would love another player of his ilk here again.

I think most title winning teams have one of those, we haven't had one for ages. Was Mascherano our last proper DM?
