Originally posted by frank the tank View PostWhen Brendan Rodgers joined LFC, he was the Northern Irish Guardiola and we didn't need a big lump like Andy Carroll because we would be playing tippy-tappy-tika-taka football and our movement was going to wow the whole country. He even let Carroll go on loan because he was so surplus to requirements and BR started his first season with Borini as the main striker. Sturridge arriving the following Jan.
Fast forward 3 years, then Brendan realised that teams would just put 11 men behind the ball and we wouldn't be able to open the door. So he went and spent 32.5m on Benteke.
Klopp is now realising the exact same lesson that Rodgers had. We will struggle to break teams down when they put 11 men behind the ball. If I was an opposing manager, the message would be simple. 2 banks of 5 lads and let them have as much possession as they want in front of us.
Against Swansea, there were actually some brilliant crosses played in from wide areas......it's just a pity that we didn't have anyone on the end of them.
If we manage to get top 4 this season, then someone like Lukaku would be brilliant signing for us. Can play with the ball at his feet, has pace and good in the air..... get him to press and he would be perfect for us. Would piss off the toffees as well....
that's the blueprint and then counter.

Unconfirmed if Didi was on the beer, but there's a good chance knowing him.
TBH, as a soundbite, it comes across as completely at odds with how Hamann has come across regarding Klopp on his pundit appearances in the past.
Dietmar Hamann has criticised Liverpool’s decision to hand Jurgen Klopp a six-year contract and claims they’ll be lucky to make the top four this season.
Liverpool were beaten 2-0 at Hull on Saturday after a dismal January saw them drop out of the title race.
Klopp was recently given a lengthy new contract, something former midfielder Hamann has questioned strongly.
Hamann told the Sunday Times:
“In England it can be OK to fail, in Germany it never is.
“I like Klopp, but they lost two finals last season, so I’d be careful.
“I wouldn’t have given him a six-year contract. That’s absolute madness.
“They won’t win anything this year and they may not finish top four.”Last edited by McDermotX; 05-02-17, 06:18 PM."I will make the boys feel your support"

That wasn't to a paper, it was this morning on MOTD2 and he questioned why, given that Liverpool exist to win things, was Klopp rewarded with a bumper contract without winning anything. Which strikes me as fair enoughOriginally posted by McDermotX View PostUnconfirmed if Didi was on the beer, but there's a good chance knowing him.

Is it really the style that's easy to counter? we've been really slow in transition and our passing has been slow and not decisive.
there is not quick movement and up front, it's all static.
There would have opportunities if we had passed the ball quicker and more tidy.

Like Dan, I do agree with your point and have seen first hand the 'space' our wide players have and how slow we are to get the ball to them. The quality of our crosses is poor though - floaty balls for opposition CBs to head out.Originally posted by Lecter View PostBarnes was miles better than what we have now. But Barnes became a better player at Liverpool because he was given the ball early.
The game hasn't evolved that much the fundamentals still apply in fact with the increased pace of the game I would argue that the fundamentals are even more important now
The passing of the defence and midfield is too slow as you have said
There's 2 reasons you want width and to switch the play quick. Defending balls from nearer the byline are a nightmare and 2 it drags players out from their tramline of the box positions and should create space in the middle
For me when Clyne and Milner get to the byline they are effective in creating chances. When they are asked to cross from deeper (ie the edge of the box) they are not
Remember Coutinho's goal vs Arsenal on tbe opening day, Clyne drove a low ball across the face of the goal and he put it in from close range. We never seem to do that now!

When we cross from deep it's poor because we shouldn't be crossing from that deepOriginally posted by Irishnev View PostLike Dan, I do agree with your point and have seen first hand the 'space' our wide players have and how slow we are to get the ball to them. When we get nearer the byline they are more effective because they cut the ball back or put in quick balls across the face of goal
Getting the ball out wide early allows more chance of getting to the byline
Slower we are with our passing the deeper the fullbacks will be which will mean more floaty ineffective crossesBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I said it in the summer, the squad is full of losers. Players haven't won anything, and bottle it when we actually get there. Klopp has won things, and now he's on a streak of five consecutive cup final defeats from Dortmund, and now us.
There was an alleged piece from one of the Spanish papers shortly after Klopp took over, that Ancelotti would've gutted the squad, as it didn't have a strong enough spine or experience of winning, and that FSG weren't too keen on that.
I like Klopp's idea of rhythm and cohesion, but we'll have to see how long things last like this, because otherwise, there are some wet cabbages that need binning asap.

Our team is very nicey, nicey great for TV ads but we need a couple of cunts with the winning mentality of a Barton/Keane etc who don't pussyfoot about. Someone not affraid to call out players, Our team really is just full of nice guys....United have a team of 20 cunts, Arsenal, Chelsea and City have there fair share too....no-one in our team has a punchable face or a nasty streak, We need some nutters not lads with great skin and lovely hair.

What a load of crap, he's played 10 league games! And hardly like he was keeping Neuer on the bench, as we've unfortunately come to see.
