City will be looking to replace Kun but other than that the top 4 don’t need a hell of a lot of spending imo ( excluding Leicester). They probably will though cause FFP & the financial problems of Covid don’t seem to affect them.

Two factors. There isn't a lot of trading during the Euros as managers have historically used it as a scouting tool, we won't - it's a mug's game.

But what I think he really means is clubs have had finances severely impacted by covid and that will have a knock on effect on transfer fees so a lot of clubs will be holding until the market is defined by those earlier transfers. The likes of Sancho has already had his fee slashed, etc.

      Edit. Ffs. What ER said.

During his media previews for Sunday’s trip to West Bromwich Albion, the manager was asked how he will handle the possibility of the return of Gomez, Matip and Van Dijk in the next campaign leading to reduced game time for the likes of Phillips and Williams.

“First and foremost, the boys did incredibly well,” replied Klopp.

“Ozan [Kabak] came in and played a super part for us; unfortunately now [is] injured. Nat now for weeks already. Rhys in the start mainly in the Champions League because Nat was not on the list for the Champions League, then we had to figure that out – how we can do that, how we can make sure at least one of the two can play.

“Now they played together, did really well [on Thursday] night, I loved what they did. That’s good. So, this year created obviously two proper careers, which is nice.

“Both will have a proper career. When you are at an academy, at whichever club, that’s not written in stone. But now they could show how good they are, and so everything will be fine.

“Our new season will start in the summer, when we start with the pre-season. I said it before – it’s not sure that the three guys you mentioned before [Gomez, Matip and Van Dijk] will start the pre-season with us. So the boys will be here; we need the numbers of centre-halves, we need to work on all the different things.

“And then step by step we hopefully have the boys back, the other guys back. But football, team selection is based on performance and training and in pre-season in friendlies, or in proper competition games. And the door is always open. I don’t get blind overnight, that I don’t see a good performance anymore. That means, really, the door is open.

“But in general it’s just nice how the boys contribute. The concentration level they showed [on Thursday] night again is immense, absolutely insane what they did there. Against this front four of United it’s not easy.

“But it was really well supported, I have to say, by our two full-backs. They were really leading the line, a lot of talks. Rhys is a natural talker on the pitch, which helps as well. So I liked how we organised the last line, that was really good.

Jurgen Klopp is adamant Liverpool transfer business this summer will not be influenced by the moves of their Premier League rivals.

The Reds will press ahead with recruitment plans after the campaign concludes on Sunday afternoon at home to Crystal Palace.

Liverpool have been assessing a new centre-back - Ibrahima Konate of RB Leipzig is on a five-strong shortlist - with midfield reinforcement also likely given Gini Wijnaldum's expected imminent departure.

Harry Kane's willingness to leave Tottenham Hotspur has intensified interest in the forthcoming transfer window with Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea said to be interested in the £100million-rated England skipper.

But Klopp is refusing to be swayed by moves elsewhere with Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards ready to mastermind another busy few months.

"Whatever we do or not do in the next transfer window, we won't use it as any kind of excuse," said the Reds boss when asked about potential transfers involving their rivals.

"We did what we did in the past the way we did it. When there was money, we spent it. When there was no money, we didn't spend it. And here we are. That's how it is.

"There's a moment in pre-season where I hope we have the team together that will go through the season. We are working for that.

"We want to be a really uncomfortable opponent, that's the most important thing. We might not be the best team in the world at the start of the season, but we want to be again the team who nobody wants to play against because we are that good. I think that's possible.

"I really think my responsibility is to improve the team without signings as well. Honestly.

"We have everything - we have experience, we have players in the best age and we have youth. That is my main focus at the moment.

"The rest, we have to see. But whatever other clubs are doing, it will not influence our business, for sure."

Since winning the Champions League in June 2019, Liverpool have had a net spend of around £10m in the transfer market.

And Klopp admits that while improvement would be welcome, he is content with his current group of players.

"I am very happy with my squad," he said. "Very, very happy.

"Could this squad improve? Yes, like each squad could. Is that affordable? I don't know. Is it necessary? I don't know.

"Whatever happens, we will see. I don't know at this moment, to be honest.

"We will have to make decisions, both in and out. All these kind of things. That's normal in a summer."
