this. At our best we were the opposite, The team pushed itself upwards with its mentality that same mentality seems to be dragging us down and no-one, not the manager or the players seems to be arresting the slide.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostI get all that, I know our available first team is not very good, with too many players who can’t do it anymore and others that don’t have the experience, but we’re consistently less than the sum of our parts. Klopp is obviously getting pissed at some individuals, listening to his post match, passing is atrocious, we try and play out from the back but can’t, we just keep sticking to our pretty rigid 4-4-3 and bemoaning the fact that the team know what they need to do but aren’t.
Even if it is largely personnel related, surely doing what’s need to get the best out of this group this season is necessary, and this can’t be the best way. The idea that there’s one way to play, and until we get the players that make it work we’re going to be ****, well that can’t be rational can it?_____________________________________

I think when we went one up, we should have been able to sit deep and play counter attacking for 15 mins. It was almost like we were kids who weren't keeping score really. And this isn't the first time. The real madrid home game was bat**** stuff too where we just kicked off and restarted again and again. This felt the same.Originally posted by Mr Pink View Post“Stop playing Henderson” - he had done- Bajcetic was keeping him out of the team, but is injured now. So is Thiago, so is Keita. Who should he have started in midfield today?
I’m not saying klopp can’t be criticized/questioned, but he’s the best thing we have going for us, at the club. If he needs to start from scratch and said look it will take another 4/5 years til we’re back challenging, I would want us to stick with him.
That is on jurgen and his assistants in my view.

Hmmm I agree about the Madrid game, but I think sitting back against city is just asking for trouble. 30 seconds before they equalized, it looked like we were gonna make it 2-0. If we had and went on to win, it would have been a good game plan. A lot of IFs, I know, but I don’t think that’s what cost is the game. It was pretty even in the first half overall..
We just bottled it in the second half- I don’t know was it the fact that we conceded straight away or what, but everyone just seemed to give up.
Will be interesting to see what he does/is able to do, in the summer. If he sticks with some of these players next year and they’re still performing like this, then he might start to find himself under a bit of pressure.I don't tip

Squad needs a major overhaul in the summer, some players are past their best or good players have lost their edge and it may be time to move them on or at least get them more competition for places. The problem is we probably need something like 6 or 7 players who are either going to be regular starters or squad players who are regularly able to fill in. The problem with an overhaul on the scale required is that it's a big change to the system and will take time to get right. As we have been saying for a while we should have been doing it iteratively over the last few yearsThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

For me, the big priority this summer is getting the Sporting Director position sorted. I'm glad we're not promoting internally, as I'd prefer someone reputable within the game, a strong voice, clear, fresh ideas, who will turn around, and say no.
I know that once Diaz is back, we'll probably see Gakpo on the bench, and use that time to train him properly, but seeing Nunez on the left, and Gakpo up front just seems strange to me, like we're overthinking things. If we're intending to use Gakpo as a false nine, then where does that leave Nunez in terms of positions on the pitch with Diaz and Salah?
Then I look at the contract situation, and how it's rumoured Klopp wanted to extend Firmino's contract, but the player made the decision himself to leave. He wants to extend Milner's contract too. He was a big advocate for Henderson's deal too, and then kept Oxlade Chamberlain and Keita for another year, (despite their utterly atrocious injury records and form) meaning we're losing them on frees.
I look at our tactical setup with Elliott on the right of the central midfield, and it's just utterly bizarre. The poor guy has played too much football this season, and I fear it'll hamper his development, while Carvalho has been cast aside, likely not ready.
I want a strong Sporting Director to come in, and establish clear parameters in terms of players coming in that fit an obvious style of play, someone who will look at the contracts we offer, and how long's left, and help push us to make the tough choices, like binning Ox and Keita last summer, regardless of how Klopp feels. Someone who will look at our preparation, and ask questions, because Pep Lijnders quote about us training to peak for the Community Shield last summer still leaves me utterly baffled.
Klopp's got a ton of credit in the bank, but he's made some very strange decisions on and off the pitch, which I think a good Sporting Director can really help with.Last edited by Phoenix07; 02-04-23, 10:22 AM.

Then Keita, Firmino, Chamberlain and Milner all off the wage bill.
Then take the 335m, add in whatever the transfer kitty is to it and get Kone, Thuram, Adyemi, N'Dicka (free), Gusto, Aouar, Klostermann and Tonali. Should be something left over for another player or two.
Start next season with Diaz, Nunez and Adyemi up front.
In midfield we have Thuram, Tonali and Kone waiting to do battle with fools.
Klostermann (Hakimi is off my RB wish list due to being a rapey scumbag--allegedly) becomes our new high energy really quick big ******* right back.
Gusto is the back up right back or Timber is we can get him.
N'Dicka replaces Matip and is there to challenge for a starting berth at CB and at worst is the third choice CB.
Aouar is there with Thiago, Henderson and Bajcetic as the CM back ups.
And we use the £3.67 to get some wine gums.
Easy this transfer lark.
All of those players mentioned as incoming seem to be bigger than average risks to me.
I don’t think any of them have shown enough to suggest they’d be good enough to improve the team to be back at the level it was last season.
Some of them have a lot of potential though.Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

Some of them have a lot of potential though.
The three midfielders I picked (the starters that is, not Aouar who would be a punt but then again I said he would be a squaddie) are all young but all three have either CL or International experience to go with their domestic form. All three have shown a lot of form for driving their teams on and being the ones who grind it out when their team is on the receiving end.
Adyemi is young too but he also has CL experience and has stood out against some very good teams, plus he is standing out in the same league that Bellingham is standing out in (same goes for Kone)
Klostermann is tried and trusted at RB and CB for Club (domestic and CL level) and also for the German national team.
N'Dicka has five years of looking good at Bundesliga level, is available on a free, looks to have all the physical qualities needed for the PL as well as being a good reader of the game, plus is available on a free so as a Matip replacement (who himself was a freebie from the Bundesliga) he makes sense to be the new number three CB with the aim to compete for a starting berth.
Gusto or Timber would be punts to fill back up slots, Both are highly rated and
if brought in as back ups they would have that bit more time to settle in, and as both have good reps we would probably make back what we spend on them.
Aouar is a freebie this summer and I would see him as replacing Keita/Chamberlain and he does have plenty of first team experience at domestic and CL level too. Would not have to be him but a player of that level of talent and in that age bracket.
They would all be gambles of course, no less and no more than signing Bellingham for the cost of three of them would be. Him doing well for Dortmund holds the same weight as the young guys I mentioned doing well in their leagues for me.
Him being English holds as much weight as Sancho being English and looking great at Dortmund. Same risk of not succeeeding.
My logic is by buying three very talented highly rated young midfielders for close to the price of one very highly rated very talented young midfielder is that you increase the chances of getting a home run.
Now if we can buy Bellingham AND add a couple lower priced played like Kone or Thuram into the mix at the same time that would be fantastic.
The other side of this is it was me just playing a bit of Fifa23 style transfer malarky in my earlier post with who I was selling and buying. Was easier to do something like that and imagine things being better than thinking too much about the performance against City that I had just watched.

I'm a little confused that we were able to say no to extending Wijnaldum's contract, but then we've become pretty poor at dealing with those nearing the end of them after that.Originally posted by baitman View PostHanding out extensions or refusing to bin the obvious dead wood is piss poor management.

Did no one turn around to Klopp and say, 'look, you've got all of these midfielders, but Ox and Keita have awful injury records, and their form combined is patchy. They only have a year left, let's try and move them on, and bring a fresh pair of legs?' It fuels the rumours that Klopp has been given more power, although that's speculation, because surely Ward could see the signs?
A strong Sporting Director should be able to come in, and say, 'Ox and Keita are leaving, and we have to bring in a fresh pair of legs. It's not Bellingham or Tchouameni, but we've found these young midfielders with the potential to be elite.' They would've also refused a contract extension for Firmino before the player made the decision to leave himself.
Paul Mitchell supposedly looked at Monaco's injury record, and implemented tweaks here and there. Our injury record is way ahead of any others this season. I'd hope someone in the summer in the footballing side of things will review this and ask the right questions.
From being blunt and complacent, this one appointment could transform a lot of weak spots for us. I'm pleased the club are looking externally, as I really feared a Hunter/Fallows appointment.

What’s frustrating is that we only needed to not be completely ****ing **** this season to be in the mix for fourth. We have lost to a whole load of dog **** teams with inferior lineups but far more discipline and desire. That’s why this season is primarily on Klopp imo.Last edited by Kenneth; 02-04-23, 06:25 PM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years
