So many of us have been saying for ages to play him in midfield since hes a garbage right back. Took long enough. After the match Carragher mentioned how he started off as a midfielder. I'd completely forgotten this. Make sense.

He looked great last night, I have my long term doubts but one thing for sure he is a pretty **** RB nowadays and its only getting worse as he is targeted game after game.
Something has to change._____________________________________

He wasn’t exactly - this role is actually quite more disciplined than earlier in the season when he was almost playing as a 10. Sam has a good thread explaining the differencesOriginally posted by Pepe79 View PostYep, earlier in the season anyway.

Yep, saw that earlier and remember the discussion around it at the beginning of the season.Originally posted by Irishnev View PostHe wasn’t exactly - this role is actually quite more disciplined than earlier in the season when he was almost playing as a 10. It’s been tweaked and refined, but yes Trent as right back out of possession and midfield in possession is something we’ve been trying since the season started..

It’s what we are saying - the role has changed from the madness he was doing earlier in the seasonOriginally posted by Kenneth View PostHe spend half of the match sat bang central in front of VVD looking to ping balls wide and forward. Not a chance have we been doing that all season, what a load of BS.

A LCM will do the same for the LB and a DM will often drop in between the two CBs if a CB is covering a full back.
A big part of our past system being found out is simply down to the players we use within it no longer having the level of physicality required for the role.
When Real Madrid shredded us at Anfield they have their CMs covering the flanks during certain transistions of play, when Napoli beat us they did likewise.
Even in systems that play with three at thye back and that do not use wingbacks you will still have a midfielder having to go cover on the flanks at times to prevent quick breaks.
And as for saying TAA is no longer a solid defender, well maybe he is not or maybe he is one that needs a mobile midfield to allow him to do what he does best.
You say he is no longer a solid defender, well he is totally unproven as a midfielder at this level let alone proven as a top level play maker from the centre and you are happy to gamble on using him there even though a big part of that role will be to intercept and read the game, two qualities he would need in spades for the role and two qualities he would have needed at RB. So if he does not have those qualities in your eyes to be able to continue at RB, how will he thrive in midfield against good teams?

And no I’m not Jamie Carragher but finally he speaks sense [emoji23][emoji6]
