****ed off when McManaman did this to us and feel the same way about Trent. That being said, we won trophies with him and we don't own him. Seemingly they are offering something like 1m euros, it's not so much about the money but might be better trying to get some nominal fee and an agreement that they have to pay a huge fee if they come after any of our players in the next x years likewe supposedly did with Barcelona in the Coutinho deal or some first refusals on some of their players

Pretty sure the club wont want to come across looking bad even though Trent firmly deserves it. They'll accept something and let him go early. Its not like they werent expecting this for months. Most of us were.

If we were interested in one of their players, say Rodrygo or that Guler fella for example, then playing nice here could pay dividends.

Also, I think trents contract will be up until the end of June.....so saving a months salary would be about 600 to 850k.

Personally, I wouldn't play him for the rest of the season. It could be considered as 3 pre season games for next season and he won't be here. No benefit for lfc to have him play.

I would not trust Madrid in anything transfer-related. They are a bunch of Motorhome drivers.

They won't commit to anything regarding any targets we have, and anyway, the players have the final say, not the club. Remember they are the same club who had to pay Bale a ****-ton on money to become very good at golf - they are not all powerful when it comes to players.

I don't see it as cutting off your nose to spite your face; it demonstrates we can be tough with Madrid, and we will extract as much money as we can from them after being screwed over by them and Trent for a transfer fee. If they don't want to pay, the downside is that our budgeted costs remain unchanged.

Trent's contract is to the 30th June, and he is our asset until he is not..

The risk of playing him now is all on Madrid, not us. We have won the league regardless, so start him against Arsenal, and let's see how he gets on. If he isn't making the effort, sub him, and I don't care if it is after 15 mins or 85. If he picks up a knock or injury, that's unfortunate, but of course, if Madrid want to mitigate the risk of their new, cheap Galactico signing starting his career in the treatment room, they can pay for the privilege. It's just business now, and getting the most out of Madrid is what matters.

If Madrid want him early then they pay. Simple as that. This is the only bit we are in control of. If they don’t want him to risk injury by playing in our remaining games, they pay his wages to the end of the season, plus compensation to the club.

If they don’t play then stick him in every starting 11 to the end of the season and if he picks up a knock, tough ****. If he refuses to play (which I doubt he would) then dock his pay.

Time to play hardball with the player and Madrid.
