I think losing Trent (and Joe Gomez) from our defense has affected us more than we realise. Their pace is so important (though Joel is stepping up). Both will only get better under Klopp. If we win the EPL, their confidence will soar and they will get even better.

Another thing that is vastly underrated is the quality of long balls he plays to Salah down the line. He seems to angle/spin them in a way that salah can easily run onto them.Originally posted by Lecter View PostThis ties in with the stat about Salah scoring more often when Trent plays
They have a great partnership and all top sides benefit from building up such relationships - Right Side, Left Side, CBs, Strike Partners etc etc.

I actually commented during a game recently... Maybe West Ham (though I am sure the same happened when Trent played v Bayern... just back from injury), that it seemed to me that all of our play was going down our left through Robbo and Mane, and was proving easyto defend. Salah and Milner were nowhere near as effective.Originally posted by Lecter View PostThis ties in with the stat about Salah scoring more often when Trent plays
When the threat is doubled it is very difficult to defend against, with both flanks very productive. The end product is crucial as is the midfields ability to spot the which flank has the advantage.
Interesting that though Trent was amazing and got three assists, Robbo got the other 2!

As far as I’m concerned there’s no assist for Origi’s goal as he did it all on his own.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostI actually commented during a game recently... Hard to believe it's been a problem area for us for nearly 30 years and Klopp has come in and sorted both positions basically for the price of a Kevin Stewart.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostI actually commented during a game recently... If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Then we've got Kevin to thank for that then!!Originally posted by RedReet View PostHard to believe it's been a problem area for us for nearly 30 years and Klopp has come in and sorted both positions basically for the price of a Kevin Stewart.Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

When we have Robbo and Trent playing both sides we look more potent as it is hard to nullify Salah and Trent , Mane and Robbo as a partnership
Same as when Milner played left back the other year.
We were all pleased as it meant Moreno was benched but he doesn't bring to the game the level that both do for either flanks.

For a while I have thought that he should play in midfield and that he was somewhat wasted at RB, but in the system we play with the fullbacks getting so much freedom he is effectively doing that anyway and if he can influence games that much from RB then moving him elsewhere means that you lose that. So I think I would leave him there for a while.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostWhere do you see him playing in the future? If he stays at right back he could go on to be the among the worlds best, such a fantastic player, what is he? 20 years old?The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I also think he should stay at right back. Trent's biggest asset is his crossing and long passing game imo. The fullbacks in this system seem to get the most space on the ball when attacking, they end up in that position where the right/left midfielder in a 90s 4-4-2 might be, a few yards in from the touchline level with the top of the box quite a lot and this is the perfect angle for Trent or Robbo to swing balls in.
There is a lot less time on the ball to pick a pass in the centre of the park or gather your thoughts before running at someone.Y.N.W.A!!!!!!

Long gone are the days of fullbacks being forgotten men.
TAA can easily become a legend playing RB his whole career for us.
There’s no reason why he has to move into midfield, he’s massively involved bombing down the wing as he does.James Philip Milner Fanclub #1

Languishing right at the bottom of the page.
I thought he looked in complete control on Wednesday. Ribery isn't anywhere near the player he was but still a tricky opponent for a young scamp like TAA.
What I liked most was that shortly after VVD had scored, the ball either went out, or Mane was offside from another corner. I forget which. Anyway, TAA ended up with the ball and even though he saw one of the B-balls throw another to Neuer he pretended he hadn't and made sure there were two balls on the pitch to kill a few seconds.
It's the sort of thing Johnny Foreigner has been getting away with for years whereas we Brits are just too honest for that type of skullduggery. So good to see TAA showing a bit of big game savvy at such a tender age.
