As pointed out in the match thread he thrives when given time and space and that's exactly what Villarreal gave him in the second half. Not a player for 'the trenches'

I don't get where this 'he needs space' nonsense has suddenly came from. The opposite is true, he excels in tight areas and one of our best players for when teams press.

Likewise, he doesn't play well in big games.

He has also just said he still hasn't shown his best form because of injuries and stop start playing. Crazy after nearly four years here. Hopefully he doesn't leave now he is doing the business.
