Your car insurance works in a similar way, if you're young and have a high performance car then statistically you have a much higher chance of being involved in an accident, therefore your premiums will be much higher.

I'm sure they could find a way to make this work.
It would be good for clubs and good for insurers, but heavily stacked against the Nations.

For a start, they'll be paying a ****load of money which they previously didn't have to. Then it's a bit flawed in the sense that even ignoring injured players, insurance for a £100m is going to be significantly higher that insurance for a £1m player, so they are in a position where they might be better off not picking their star players as it would cost too much money.

Also, the insurance company is a business and they are more interested in profit than player welfare, so I don't see them being any more impartial than the club or country as naturally they'll have their own interests at the forefront of their decision making.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Guinea midfielder Naby Keita has left the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt to fly to Liverpool to be assessed by doctors at the Premier League club.

The 24-year-old came into the tournament short of match fitness after suffering a serious groin injury.

Under the rules we have no right to deny them a player, but I think that is also a problem, they should have a responsibility to the players welfare, their decision to ignore medical advice resulted in his injury.
You guys did notice that the 3 months was from his previous injuries. Not 3 months from now?

He's got bumps and bruises (and no fitness). He should still be ok for Pre-Season

That’s 3 months if he’s recovering, not continuing to play during that time. Guinea had him playing on it after 7 weeks. How much recovery has his groin injury been getting with him playing over the past fortnight?

Even 3 months from the initial injury would have him missing most of pre-season.
