Would be very disappointing if he were to leave. Something is in the works, otherwise we wouldn’t have bought the other lad.

Said this before, the biggest compliment we can give him is we haven't missed Ali in the slightest. I do think he has learned alot from Allison and he is much more comfortable with the ball at his feet.
Keeping him is priority if indeed Allison is going which I suspect he is. Other lad we signed is a question mark.

Was a comment on Irish tv last night that nailed the difference between Ali and Kelleher for me.
What was said was Kelleher is fully capable of standing in for Ali when Ali is injured but when Ali is fully fit Kelleher is not at the level yet to displace Alisson
What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

Yes and No.
Yes in that he is unproven with us, but a big no when it comes to gauging his abilty as a keeper.
He is two years younger than Kelleher but is an established starter with more than twice as many career games for club and country (over 200 and counting) than Kelleher has.
Is not for no reason that he has been one of the most highly rated young keepers in the world the past few years.
To put his rise in context, when Kelleher was the age Mamardashvili is now he had 21 games for us to his name and 9 caps for Ireland.
Now you can rightly (imo) add weight to Kelleher's low number of games at the age of 26 by saying that a good number of them are against high calibre teams but is not as though Mamardashvili is not playing against the likes of Real Madrid, Barca and Atletico Madrid on a regular basis either.
What I do know about Mamardashvili is that he moved to La Liga straight from the Georgian league at the age of 21 and within a few months made himself a starter that has hardly missed a minute since becoming a starter. He has also been a stand out keeper straight away and stayed as one for the past three and a bit seasons in Spain.
As far as young keepers go, I think Mamardashvili is as close to a safe punt as one could get. Him being a big unit that knows how to use his size but is weirdly agile for his size will not hurt either.
Not sure why we think keeping Kelleher is something we have control over. Surely you have seen the same press conference interviews he has given over here before Irish games? The guy has been very clear he wants a move. He said it in the summer and he said it again during the recent International break. He even spelled out how he looked for a move at the end of last season but that the lack of a good enough offer prevented it.
The club knows he wants out and he has been very honest about it as well.
Even around his old stomping ground in the south east of Cork city where he still spends time with his family, the general consensus is he is off this summer and by all accounts it is a pretty open secret.
Arsenal, Newcastle and Valencia (probably lazy speculation tbf especially on the last one) being the three clubs mentioned most often.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Kelleher hasn't put a foot wrong in all the games he has played so far this season, we haven't missed Alisson at all which is a huge compliment to Kelleher, for me he would be first choice at at least 16 of the other PL clubs, and on current form he deserves his place. I will be sad to see him leave which looks to be the case in the summerLast edited by Exiled_red; 28-11-24, 12:46 PM.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He has been at Valencia since the 2021/22 season. He has been playing well pretty much from when he arrived to now.
He was also one of the keepers of the tournament at Euro24 just gone.
He is like Alisson in that he rarely has to make a spectacular save because his positioning/anticipation has him in place to make stops look a bit routine. He is also elite when it comes to one on ones with an attacker, again like Alisson.
Think Alisson at Roma and he is in that mould but he also has a lot of Courtois in his style of keeping, especially when his team is under the cosh. Has that Courtois knack of keeping his team in games when they are leaking chances to the other team.
Imo Mamardashvili is already at the very good level and looks like he might be on the cusp of becoming elite. The fact he has played over 200 senior games means there is a lot to judge him on both in terms of watching him and in terms of data.
Another thing he has in his locker is that sky high level of confidence the best keepers tend to have. He makes a mistake and it does not seem to phase him in the slightest. Some keepers make a big mistake and they are jittery for a bit after it.
Have seen people say he is not good with his feet, but his short to mid range passing is in the same ball park as both Kelleher and Alisson in terns of pass completion. His longer range (over 40 yard) passing numbers are not as good our two but part of that might be down to Valencia going long when under pressure in a clear it anywhere manner.
Think when we were looking at Alisson I said in one of the threads I thought we were getting a worldie, have the same feeling about Mamardashvili. Think he is going to be a close to Alisson level keeper before his first season with us ends and maybe then onto being a proper worldie from then on.

Giorgi Mamardashvili was bought for 25m+, so we must have known that Ali is off and Keller isn't happy to stay as number 2.
No one could have predicted the epic rise and consistency that Keller has shown, or maybe we would have saved the money and made him our number 1...
But maybe that ship has sailed and its all change next season, with Ali being sold, Keller being sold, and Mama taking the number 1 shirt.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

He wants a move because he clearly feels he's considered number 2 and no matter how well he plays, he just isn't going to ever displace Allison.Originally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostYes and No.

Mamardashvili is unproven at top level, playing for a top club where every mistake is magnified and the level of pressure and expectation is a totally different prospect to what he is used to, many top talents have crumbled. He certainly maybe a talent but we know more about Kelleher at LFC and he's hardly put a foot wrong anytime he gets his chance. It must be very frustrating knowing how well you are doing but regardless you will inevitably be benched as soon as the other fella comes back, no wonder he expressed a desire to leave.
It's a good problem to have though and what will be will be. The fact we have a number 2 that is performing at elite level week in, week out is amazing. It could have been Adrian, know what I mean.Last edited by danperkins; 28-11-24, 01:56 PM.

That's because he is our number two. He ain't displacing a fit Alisson. He is good enough to cover for Alisson but in no world is he getting the nod when Alisson is available.
As for us buying Mamardashvili , well that was very smart business by the club. Kelleher, by his own admission, made it clear in the summer he wants out so the club protected itself by getting a deal for one of the best young keepers in the game sewn up and Mamardashvili gets another season as a nailed on starter under his belt before joining us.
So he may not have played for a Liverpool sized club but he will be joining us off the back of being a nailed on started for 3.5 season in a top league playings against top teams on a regular basis. So in a way not all that dissimilar to Alisson when he joined us, he just has more experience of playing in a top Europen league than Alisson had when he joined us.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
