I don't see this scenario happening, but hypothetically: if Alisson left in the summer would Mamardashvili be nailed on number 1 as soon as he comes in or would he have to displace Kelleher?

I think Kelleher is leaving in the summer regardless of whether Alisson does or not.
He in a sense called the clubs bluff by saying he wanted out and that he wanted offers for him to be considered. The club then bought Mamardashvili and Forest being the only club to come in with a lowball offer for Kelleher then meant Kelleher went nowhere.
Also Kelleher has stated he was not looking to extend his contract and come the summer he is down to his final 12 months so he may have it in his head that if a good move does not happen in the summer, then just go for nowt 12 months later.
Fast forward to where we are now and I don't think a lot has changed. I think Mamardashvili is still going to arrive next summer with the intention being that he either goes head to head with Ali pre season or Ali is off and Mamardashvili goes straight in as number one.
Kelleher will leave imo no matter what is going on with Alisson and when he does I think we will look to bring in an older keeper to be our new number two or number three.
If the scenario you mentioned occurred and Kelleher stayed and Mamardashvili came in. My money would be on Mamardashvili being number one for the first game of the season. That is down to me still having the same view I had back in the summer in that I regard Mamardashvili as being a better goalkeeper than Kelleher is. That's not me saying that I think Kelleher is anything other than a good to very good goalkeeper, just that I think Mamardashvili reached Kelleher's level some time back and has since moved a tad above that level.
What might change between now and the summer, and again is one of those if and maybe type scenarios, is that if Alisson stays out injured for longer than expected or gets another injury, then Kelleher gets the sort of extended run that maybe sees him improve further and what we can get for him in the summer goes up despite him then being in his final year.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

So we are both agreeing that when Alisson comes back, regardless if Kelleher is in world beating form.... he's getting benched. No wonder he wants out if that is indeed the case. To me, much like any player... Alisson should have to earn his way back. Different story if Kelleher was or is playing **** and are desperate for Ali to come back but he is playing as well as any keeper in club football right now & we haven't missed Alisson in the slightest which I never thought would happen.Originally posted by Doc_Piptorious View PostThat's because he is our number two. He ain't displacing a fit Alisson. He is good enough to cover for Alisson but in no world is he getting the nod when Alisson is available.
As for us buying Mamardashvili , well that was very smart business by the club. Kelleher, by his own admission, made it clear in the summer he wants out so the club protected itself by getting a deal for one of the best young keepers in the game sewn up and Mamardashvili gets another season as a nailed on starter under his belt before joining us.
So he may not have played for a Liverpool sized club but he will be joining us off the back of being a nailed on started for 3.5 season in a top league playings against top teams on a regular basis. So in a way not all that dissimilar to Alisson when he joined us, he just has more experience of playing in a top Europen league than Alisson had when he joined us.
If Alisson is leaving, it is smart us getting ahead of losing a world class keeping. I don't think anyone is saying otherwise but I do wonder if Kelleher might fancy his chances if Alisson does go. He has proven numerous times now that he is a top quality, prem proven keeper that can handle the pressure of playing for LFC in the biggest games.
Regardless, we seem to have managed to be lumbered with quality keepers, considering we were relying on Adrian and Marius not so long ago, this seems glorious.Last edited by danperkins; 28-11-24, 03:17 PM.

Not beyond the realms of possibility if Kelleher stayed between the sticks the rest of the season and extended his contract come the summer. I don't think all that will happen, but it is certainly possible if Kelleher mainatained his form and kept improving.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Nah.
Alisson is the best in the world. Everytime he returns from an injury he takes no time at all to get back to top form.
A player like that walks back into the team every time for me. Would be different if he took time to recover form or he went through patchy spells or whatever.
Plus there is the small matter that for me he is quite a bit better than Kelleher.
Alisson is a proven elite level keeper. Easily the best keeper in the PL and for me in the world as well.
Kelleher right now is looking like he might be showing that he can be a very good keeper on a regular basis. Kelleher might go on to prove himself a world class kepper, he may end up in that tier, but right now Alisson is the guy who not only is he world class, he is the guy that stands out amongst the elite level keepers.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I think it's easily forgotten how transformational Alisson has been, given his injuriesOriginally posted by DerKrampus View PostI realy don't get what Alisson does that's any better than Kelleher right now apart from grow a beard.
He is a unicorn of a goalkeeper - incredible shot stopping and reflexes, excellent distribution, excellent judgement, and an uber calm temperament who has turned a glaring weakness into one of our biggest strengths
In each of these dimensions, in my opinion, he is better than Kelleher, sometimes not by much but when you look at it in totality, it's hard for me to imagine any other keeper who comes close to being as perfect for us, given how we play

Think what you can say about Alisson is that there is no top team that would not be improved by having him in goals.
He could play in any set up and still be the best in the world.
As you say, he is a unicorn of a goalkeeper.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

One thing Allison is worse off than Kelleher is that sometimes he can cause a little problem with playing the ball at his feet for too long. He's been caught out a couple times. Kelleher has always looked solid and somehow managed to keep improving despite being so good. Does anyone even know if Marma can speak english. Cause if he doesnt have a solid connection with the backline its going to go straight to hell.

He can.
From an interview after he first moved to Spain.
Support from teammates
My teammates have helped me out a lot. I want to give special thanks to Cillessen and Ochotorena. When I came here, I didn't know how to speak Spanish. Cillessen and I would speak in English. He helped me a lot, taught me bits of the language... I want to thank Ochotorena as well, because he is a great professional.
And in more recent interviews from the summer just gone he said that as soon as the deal to join us was made, he started taking English lessons a few times a week so that he would have a year's worth of being in the habit of using English every week before joining us full time.I don't hate people.
