Just watching the footage of him climbing front the pitch up to the stand using the railing.

News reports saying that the woman that was against the railing on the stand at the point where he climbed up is either his wife/girlfriend or a relative.

He and the other players then plough forward into the melee from that point. If that is his wife/girlfriend (and she seems to say something to him and then point towards someone or someones in the Colombian shirts), it looks more and more like he and the other players got between the attackers and the families and then just went for the attackers.

It will be interesting to see the police reports after their investigation, plus the stadium has cameras on all over the stadium all the time. Hopefully it had some good angles of the incident.

As I said, the initial emotional and ongoing reaction of Suaurez being accused of racially abusing Evra, comparing to Nunez fighting opposing fans to defend family and teammates is astounding and revealing.

“Attackers”. We’ll see, but it needs to be a pretty high bar of culpability to balance out players entering the stands and swinging at people. Like. significant risk of immediate danger stuff. From the videos I’ve seen, they suggest that this is unlikely. Revenge or punishment of “attackers” will not fly.

Think if it comes to light that family and friends were being abused and/or being attacked, then as far as I am concerned Nunez can take the ban and receive no criticism.

Was it reckless and dumb to rush a crowd? Of course, but if his family, his wife, his two year old kid and the family of other players were at risk or he thought they were at risk, then he did what most would do and had the same sort of red mist come down as most would get if a loved one was perceived to be in danger.

Now if it is a case it is simply a case of being pissed off after losing a game and going into a fight that was already ensuing in the crowd, that's a different story altogether.

But think he deserves the benefit of the doubt and the more that is coming out by way of comments from other players, from media shots, and so on, it does appear like he and others went in where they thought their family and friends were at risk and then placed themselves between the familes and the threat.

Tell you what Darwin, when I finally go into Tallaght to get that fecker Perkins, you are welcome to come in there with me to take on Perkins and his 75k or so of Taliforians.

Think if there was abuse or worse being aimed at family members, then players are going to think the worst and angry shouting and shoving would look like an attack on their loved ones.

Just the perception of your family being attacked amidsts some chaos would be enough to spark a full on reaction.

The sort of thing that would not exactly be conducive to some calming words being tossed about.

**** it, time to make up some "I'm with Darwin" tshirts. Anyone got Kenny Dalglish's phone number so I can get the name of a good printer.

I have to say I find it amusing that he is doing all this while still holding the shirt of the Columbia player he swapped shirts with
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

There is lots of video and none to back up the idea that they were at risk. Will be interesting to see if some evidence comes out.
This is the lead up to the players piling in and it appears to me, at least, that things were under control and that the families were being directed away by stadium staff. https://www.reddit.com/r/LiverpoolFC/s/3KB90yRHjP
The players piling over the top and fighting appeared to make the situation of the families significantly worse. Even if the underlying motivation is to be protective of family, it doesn’t give carte blanche to behave violently and recklessly and endanger others. The fact that he subsequently decided to wing a chair at people suggests he wasn't being entirely rational. If you’re worried about the safety of your wife and child you focus on removing them from the situation, which there is no evidence of whatsoever. Just being able to relate to somebody’s reaction doesn’t make it okay.

The guy has cost the club too much already, and now this. What a liability.

Hmmm I don’t think I drew any conclusions? I just said my opinion after watching the videos. You’re criticizing me for commenting on available videos, but you’re taking it as fact that the columbian fans were attacking his family AND that the police were useless:

Maybe wait til we have proof before drawing these conclusions. After all, it is the adult thing to do, right?

lol. I’m not allowed to criticise him when he hits the post from 3 yards, okay, but apparently I’m also not allowed to criticise him for piling into opposition fans swing punches and attempting to throw a chair at them. Is there any circumstance where I’m allowed to be critical?

I think its great that players can get in trouble for defending their loved ones yet fifa etc all of them can brush aside their ****ty efforts of security and blame others.

Looking at the videos again and it seems the Colombians had swords and artillary support too. Clear cut case of uber heroics from Darwin and the lads I suspect.

Classic rookie mistake of bringing a knife to a Darwin fight.

Well with the next world cup being in North America, it really should be rasing questions about the security and crowd management for that tournament.

But no doubt FIFA will want to push any conversations in a different direction

Honestly I'd probably do the same had my family been in there. **** thinking about bans and sportsmanlike behavior in a moment like that, if you do you're more of a psycho than if you react, if you ask me.

You wouldn’t escort them out of the stand, and afterwards you’d try and chuck a chair into the crowd? I understand how there can be some back and forth about the initial crowd brawl, but the chair thing, there’s no explaining it away.
