This may be a rather obvious question but are any of you Atkiners vegetarians? If so what do you use as alternatives?
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Good work. I think the Atkins diet plus good carbs is the way to go. I'd question the amount of fat it allows you to eat maybe, but still

And water water water. 2L per day, amazing the effect it has

          Hmm, doesn't sound too lovely!!

Although I like cottage cheese, apples, raisins and nuts so I'll give it a go!

I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

Aye it is amazing the effect water has actually. Can't get enough of it once you start either. Trust me it's nice Kinda like cheese and jam on toast, it just works somehow

Rowan btw, I can't help you I'm afraid but someone else can. I'm not sure what you could replace it with really as it's quite a large part of the diet

It's alright Wiw. You've already done more than enough. I'm going to try your snazzy Cottage Cheese and apples combo and now I also look like I mean business

Well it’s come to that time where i said i will start my fitness schedule

Firstly following the weekend I am quite relived to start a no drinking program! I was ruined this weekend, and on Bank Holiday Monday – woke up at 7am and started being sick which contined till about 1pm when i finally managed to get one slice of toast down me – I then went the pub but didn’t drink tho i did have a chicken/bacon in a cheesy bbq sauce and chips to eat which will be my last ‘unhealthy’ meal – for my tea I had a seafood stir fry that i really enjoyed. Cheap and quick to make plus quite tasty as a bought a fresh seafood cocktail that i just lobbed in with the stir fry.

On too day two then as I am including yesterday as i was relatively healthy ther than the chips

Got up late so no brekkie - but about to go too asda so i can get all my healthy food in for the rest of this week and then I may even quickly pop the gym for half hour Jacuzzi/steam room or I might save it and go after work for a bit more of a session

So lets see how i cope - i am highly motivated to succeed and I think getting all my healthy food in and planning my diet for the first week, along with joing the gym I reckon i will be ok, as i said, the worry is no alcohol - and the first real test will be the weekend, if i can get the first 7 days in I reckon the second 7 will be fine.

haha well i had a bit of a final blow out - and to be fair it kinda did what i wanted/worked - as much as i enjoy eating take away and drinking beer - seriously, by sunday afternoon i had had enough and couldn't wait to get started - quite a few of my mates have scoffed at the thought of me giving up the beer, that has just motivated me further, a few of mates are right arrogant *******s who despite the fact they drink and eat similar to me, they are toned to **** - mainly cause their jobs have always involved fitness so they are always exercising where i as i have always been sat in an office. - so **** em - i am going to smash up this diet lark, not touch the ale, go a good 2 weeks of heatlhy eating and exercise, lose minimum half a stone, and then celebrate by getting bladdered whilst wearing a tight white t-shirt

Are you training for anything in particular?

Not really, I was gong to do the Great North run in Newcastle but it was fully booked ages ago sadly.

I pretty much started running as a kind of therapy to beat the sadness after breaking up with my girlfriend. It works for me.

I feel so much more active and healthy now, I have so much more energy now than I did before. If I can keep it going, and I suspect I will, then I will definitely do at least a half marathon in the near future.

You should be able to get a charity place for the Great North Run. I got mine about this time for last year and I think the minumum commitments only about £350 (as opposed to the £2K you need to raise if you want to do the London Marathon) It's worth checking the Great Run website as there are a load of links on there. Half Marathons are good crack as well. I've done a couple since GNR and it's helped me keep my training up. I'm trying to get a place in the London Marathon next year as it seems the sensible progression.

You're right about energy levels as well. I've never felt as healthy since I started running. The difference is amazing. Plus it means you can all but **** off diets (althogh I would like to try a veggie version of the Atkins Diet if I can find an idiots guide to it).

Good luck though mate. Hope you manage to get a place sorted out and if you end up doing it for a good cause i'll happily sponsor you.

****ing hell - this drinking a min of two litres of water lark is mad - i constantly need a piss! - seriously, must have had 10 to 15 pisses already today

other than that day 3 going well, scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast for brekkie, a banana about 11 and about to have my lunch which is a grilled chicken fillet, salad and roasted veg, with incy ickly teeny drop of piri piri sauce to give it some flavour.
