You guys are missing my point a tad. We shouldn't need DRS and 7% increase in correct decisions is **** all when you consider the type of technology they are supposedly using.....and how much cricket is actually being played. Umpiring standards generally IMO seem to be getting worse and worse and i think its because they fall back on having DRS to look at things closer. It shouldnt be that way. They should be getting the ****ing decisions right in the first place. Might as well get rid of umpires all together really. Whats the need for them?

The review system isn't good enough either. Two reviews and sloppy umpiring in general. Teams are just going to review through lack of trust in decisions. I would. These ****s cant do their job in the first place correctly FFS.

Well these four umpires are having a nightmare, that's obvious, but I haven't noticed a drop in umpiring standards prior to this Test. These are just a bad bunch having a nightmare. They should just use the best blokes regardless of where they're from. One from England, one from Australia and a third ump from anywhere. Maybe you could even have specialist third umpires.

And I can't believe you're saying 7% is **** all. It's 7% better than it was pre-DRS, and with the system still in its infancy the improvement in percentage of correct decisions made is almost certain to increase as they iron out the problems.

You should keep your review on umps call, not sure about the line is there not a margin of error why its there

Yeah but reduce the margin for error...if it's hitting flush on the middle of the stump it has to be out! They put their faith in Hawkeye so why not back up that faith by giving those ones out?

Tennis don't use the predictive element though. I think Hawkeye themselves admit there is a small margin of error on the predictive part of their technology, it's tiny, but it's still there and that's why they try and allow for it by saying more that half the ball has to be hitting to overturn the decision. I agree that is probably a bit too generous though.

I agree with losing your review on an umpires call. It's about eliminating the howlers not encouraging teams to have punts at overturning close calls. We'd be there all day waiting for decisions if that were the case and the game moves slow enough as it is. Having the odd 3rd umpire call is exciting and adds tension. Having them constantly would be tedious in the extreme.

The system works fine when the bloke in the 3rd umpire chair isn't an idiot.

As for the stats, well I think 7% is big, but regardless of how big a number you think it is, I don't understand the argument that we were better off getting 7% fewer correct decisions. I don't see how you can justify that position, it makes no sense to me at all.

That's because it makes no sense. It's foolishness.

Obviously id be all for it if we were the ones getting all the close decisions

I'm going today, can't wait. Need to get Clarke out early and then hopefully they'll collapse. I want to see some England batting today but doubt we will. Even if they get in by the time they are I'll probably be too drunk to see. Lets hope the rain holds off.

Evening session is always a complete write off. Some of my mates went yesterday and they were walloped by lunch and didn't sit in their seats at any point after 12:30pm ...apparently the new fan park is great. Have fun mate. Can't wait for Monday

Thanks Shaggy, looking like you might see some play with your day 5 ticket. I didn't know they had a fan park there? I'm guessing this is new this year to go with the huge temp stand?

Yeah mate I went past it the other day - it looks like it's next to (behind) the temporary stand (which I'm sat in on Monday). Think they have bands on and stuff at lunch and before play. Weird.
