Not that I diet but if I did I'd eat all the veg I wanted and control the carbs (which I always weigh anyway). So for instance on a deficit I'd go for about 60g max of rice/porridge etc.
Anyway, timely bump of the thread as I'm on the lookout for lifting chains, any of the lifters on here use them? Barbell ones are easy enough to find but I like the idea of using them on pulls ups etc as well rather than a dip belt.

As far as the calories per day you should consume, well you need to work out your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure). Once you've got that you can work out how many calories you should be aiming for each day (normally you aim for a 500 calorie deficit each day).
Using this and MyFitnessPal is the only sensible way to lose weight and keep it off IMO.

Strava syncs with MFP so you can add activities recorded on loads of fitness trackers (I use a Garmin watch) and that ups your calorie intake for the day.
Fitbit Aria scales are a good addition too. They wirelessly sync with My Fitness Pal so you cab track your weight.

Yeah, I use it. Usually when I am in a period of needing to get sensible with what Im eating.
I would recommend getting a Fitbit or similar to log your activity on there too, as itll offset with the calorie limit each day. Meaning you will have a better picture.
My advise would be to be totally honest in it, as then you can see where you **** up.

It's hard to gauge your own physique when you see yourself every day, but still it's nice to feel strong.
It's hard to gauge loss though, even scale weight as the reality is - at least for me - to get to around 12% body fat. So I'm hoping to arrive there naturally in about a year of solid training, although I measure weight loss.
I prefer strength training as well though which isn't particularly conducive to fat loss but there's plenty of options to do both such as Complexes (I like Cosgroves evil eight), HIIT and the odd crossfit wod (don't need to go to a gym to do them).
Shuttles are new to me... 25, 50, 75, 100 (twice) and then back again are rinsing me at the moment.
Always looking for new challenges though so if anyone has any fire away.

My powerlifter friend I mentioned has injured his knee and barely trained since I posted that! I'm still training about 4 times a week.
It's hard to gauge your own physique when you see yourself every day, but still it's nice to feel strong.

There's always Powerbuilding Pablo which is a mix of both, I'm a powerlifter myself. but know plenty a few people who do more powerbuilding and are both strong and jacked.Originally posted by Pablo View Post


Well I've never been slight of frame. I played rugby for years. When I started lifting a year ago I could bench 80kg after only a couple of weeks. So I suppose after a year 120kg is a natural progression. I worked out I've trained over 200 times in the past year so it's been earned.
My friend is a powerlifter and has done several competitions. His tips and help with my form over the past few months have definitely helped me add more weight. To be honest though, as much as I enjoy getting stronger and making PRs, I'm in it for the vanity
He's a huge guy, but not very toned. It's not what I'm aiming for anyway.

Ah, thought they were stability shoes. Had the gait analysis and I'm definitely an overpronator so I need the shoes and should really address my running gait but don't have the time/money. I love the Brooks. Definitely the most comfortable runners I've had. They're Brooks Ghost 9. Did 10.6k yesterday. To be on the safe side, I took 2 neurofen after and had no knee pain
Think I'll do a few runs with the neurofen after and them leave it out to see if this knee issue was due to my previous Adidas Boosts.
Venton - Ghost 9s are neutral, as per my running style.

I used to get a bit of medial tibial stress syndrome, still do a little - can be a *******. Never ended up with stress fracture thankfully! I found decent cushioning, good foot strike / running gait, and strengthening of the anterior compartment /shin region muscles worked wonders for me.
Sharing your problem here in that my desire for food joy has long overtaken my love of a long run!
