Other than your pace which is about 45 secs faster than me I could've written that. Just weighed myself at 88.3kg and have started Atkins for 3 weeks to get kicked started to try and reach my 80kg goal.Originally posted by Mr Darko View PostLost my way badly from mid-2016 onwards. Starting again now. 6 miles @ 8:17 min/mi pace. Christ I've fallen, my recovery runs used to be faster than this. Head wants to go faster but body won't allow me
They won't recognise me at the gym

Can I ask, just curiosity, why do we use "K" not miles?Originally posted by Alex View PostI'm slowly still plodding along. Motivation slipped the latter part of the year. But I've maintained a small level of fitness. Probably one 5k every couple of weeks. Not really good enough though.
Decided this year I want to nail a 10k, so I have that to work too.
Keeping in shape sucks.

I haven't been following and am not about to read 120 pages,Originally posted by Alex View PostNo, not sarky.
As you will have probably seen over the course of this thread, I am a little up and down with my fitness. Never been an easy thing for me. I love food too much. But I am at the age now where I think things will start to show and become more of an issue for me. Need to make that change.
but you're not alone in that struggle.
Everyone is different though in terms of what works for them, you just need to find that sweet spot - no one can tell you it.
I enjoy exercise, some more than others. It took many years to work out weight training was my thing over cardio. But if cardio is your want, then do that, same for yoga or whatever.
The routine i'm trying to get into is doing 30mins in the morning after a spot of meditation. Not settled into it yet, going to bed earlier is prohibiting me so need to cut that out.
This is a good guide on how to stay on track: http://bodyforlife.com/library/artic...etting-started
^ easy to underplay that aspect of getting fit. Setting achievable goals (and make them super easy, don't set yourself up to fail) is crucial IMO.Last edited by labourRed; 09-01-17, 11:40 AM.

I initially thought you were being sarky there.Originally posted by Alex View PostYou know what, I have never thought of it like that. So you are dead right. I need to associate it with a positive mindset. Forcing yourself to do things you dont like, will always lead to them not being carried through.
But yeah, the motivation is the clincher... over half the people that set out in January will have sacked it off by Feb.
If you speak to professional people or athletes they'll tell you it's all about the routine. So you doing **** ad hoc requires super human time management and motivation skills or otherwise, sticking to a routine is easier.
There are tonnes of motivational tips, such as mediation, affirmations, goal setting, visualisation, record keeping, rewards etc. But a strict routine e.g. 30mins each morning (or over dinnertime) will make life much easier.
