Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

It's completely insane isn't it? Unfathomable. The world record is 12 mins 36 seconds. It's basically 4 minute mile pace the whole way. It really defies belief!Originally posted by Norbs View Post5k in 13mins 26secs
No really. What.the.****

I just ran 10km earlier today in 56 mins and was quite pleased with myself. That now feels utterly ****

I did the Llandudno Nick Beer 10k 2 years ago in 46 minutes, first time I've ever done it and a lot of that is uphill around the Great Orme.
I had been training for it for 6 months mind but I still found it hard going. I had started training for the Conwy half marathon this November which goes round the Orme but have done my groin in big style so all running has ceased.
Pretty gutted really as there's no way I will be able to get fit enough for it now. :/Last edited by Slinky Skills; 18-08-13, 09:14 PM.Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

4 weeks to the bristol half marathon and training is going well. Ran for 1 hour 45 minutes today at a fairly comfortable pace and without dying. As ive only ever done 10k races before i have never ran for this long before so am feeling pretty confident for the race.
Next week sees my biggest training run at 2 hours. Am planning to run to my in-laws which 2 weeks ago would have seemed a ridiculous idea but now, at 12 miles, seems achievable.
Question is, do I keep it going for a marathon next year? Anyone ever done a marathon before?

Mate of mine who inspired me to take up running (I hope he never reads that because he will mock me reletlessly) finished a half Marathon in 1hr 31minutes, and is currently training for a 3hr Marathon in Berlin.
He was basically the same condition as I am now 3 years ago and has totally turned his life around. Its pretty inspiring to see the change in him.
I have a plan in mind for my progress.
5k race in a few weeks, 10k by the end of the year, and a half marathon by April next year. Its obviously very doable, but someone like myself who has been fairly sedentary his whole life (bar 5 a side football every few weeks) its a big challenge.*Except Michael, who died.

If you are anything like me you need goals to keep motivated. If not I just drift and gradually get out of the habit. Which sucks. So do it.
Well done on your progress so far too. I know how much hard work it takes to get doing something like this.*Except Michael, who died.

I had told myself that I would run a marathon before I reached 40 but that just came and went 6 months ago :-(
Definitely gonna sign up for Ashton Court 10k in October so that will be one reason to remain focussed.
Right, sod it, I'm off to search for Spring marathons now...!

Everytime I've tried full marathon training I've ended up injured. Every single time. As it is I bank over 40 miles a week and am getting swifter over 10k plus half marathons are much more fun. Credit to anyone who puts in a full though.
Next up for me is Tri. I was considering training for a full marathon again but I'm already falling to pieces and 18 mile training runs bore the life out of me so this is a fun option. Just need to learn to swim now.
And anyone who does run... I'd highly recommend sports massage. It's brill. Oh and find and join a rubbing club. It's helped me get my times down no end (as well as being full of golly nice folk).A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Oi, Rowan, what gearing did you get?
I got a bit too detailed there.
