I'm not a believer in the argument that you can't judge a keeper properly if he's always in the action as opposed to being alert if he's needed. In fact I see it the opposite way - the more he's in the action, the more we see his true skills. Or to put it another way, he is exposes to so many shots and chances and he still probably makes less mistakes than keepers behind the top defenses.

A keepers job is to make saves and organize the defense, making saves is only a part of his job.Originally posted by Nic83 View PostI'm not a believer in the argument that you can't judge a keeper properly if he's always in the action as opposed to being alert if he's needed. Reina is simply a more complete keeper than Casillas.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

That's your opinion.Originally posted by Nic83 View PostReina is not as good as Casillas.
Reina is the most complete and best keeper in the world together with Buffon IMO.
Casillas has one weakness, he isn't that good organizing up the defense. That is why Real will always leak goals whatever super defenders they sign as long as Casillas is the keeper.Just believe and you never know what will happen.

Yes AfII but I'm thinking you(and all other LFC supporters that think Reina is that good), may not think the same if he played for someone else.Originally posted by AFII View PostThat's your opinion.

Reina still has a lot to learn, he still flaps around like a clown etc at times, you never see casillas doing that and he has far more to do than Reina...
IMO the most important attributes of a keeper are the ones that involve the ball, not things like verbal presense and organising the defense, that is the job, mainly, of the centre half IMO.

To be honest I think that is potentially unfair - it always comes down to a relationship between the keeper and his two centrebacks in terms of organisation. Real have never had a Maldini or Tony Adams figure or made a concerted effort to make a quality defensive unit so it is hard to know whether Casillas or those around him are to blame. I have my reservations about Casillas like Harvey and AFII but I think he is more unproven in these areas than necessarily a failure.
I think I would rate Cech (although admittedly he is off form), Reina and Buffon above Casillas."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I suppose, you'd have to see them in the very same team to get a better idea. In a few years when Reina has more caps under his belt, it will be easier to say but then again, I'm not saying Reina doesn't have the potential to be better than Casillas, I just don't he is at the moment. For me, Reina is not in the top 10 goalkeepers. I rate even the likes of Brad Friedel and Shay given ahead of him. I would have loved to see given at one of the big 4, he could have been one of the best around. And no that's not Irish Bias, Thierry Henry would agree with meOriginally posted by dww View PostTo be honest I think that is potentially unfair - it always comes down to a relationship between the keeper and his two centrebacks in terms of organisation. I think similar styles of team is enough, possibly the same league. However over Buffons career he has now been in a pretty wide range of teams and been great for a very long time both at club and international level. The others I guess are harder compare (maybe Cech and Reina can be compared usefully) at this stage in their career.
I think Given is a top shot stopper but his weaknesses are organisational and that is why even when his contract was running down and three of the top four needed a keeper none went for him IMO. He was also shocking when Newcastle qualified for the CL.
Brad Friedel showed with us he is not able to handle being at a top club. Maybe he has improved but rarely do keepers get a second chance."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I don't think that's true. In fact I know Arsenal have been in for him a few times.Originally posted by dww View PostI think similar styles of team is enough, possibly the same league. As for the rest, they've usually been sorted for a keeper..
Yeah don't know what happened friedel but they say keeper's years best ones are the latter ones and he really has been top drawer the last few years. Maybe the pressure of James breathing down his neck when he got a shot got to him, but in all fairness, he wasn't really given much of a chance

This is true as Casillas hugs his line and never comes out to claim crosses. The main reason Real conceed so many close range headers. In my opinion Casillas is a better keeper than Reina but not for much longer as Reina is getting better at taking crosses.Originally posted by Nic83 View PostYes AfII but I'm thinking you(and all other LFC supporters that think Reina is that good), may not think the same if he played for someone else.

Atletico won 2-1.
Sevilla should have had around four players sent off but only Maresca got a red after a head butt on Aguero who again played a fantastic game.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
