Aston Villa look set to sign Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing for £12m this week, raising questions over the future of Ashley Young at Villa Park. Striker Young is wanted by Tottenham, but they could lose out to Manchester United or Chelsea.
Full story: Daily Mail
What do you think the value of Young would be? He'd be ideal for us IMO. I have a feeling it would be too much for either us or Spurs (why he would even consider a move there is a question that seems open)."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I agree he's had some real successes for not much outlay but it's easy to forget his transfer failures though too - Van Der Meyde, Beattie, that terrible Scandinavian defender whose name escapes me, etc. Maybe he's better than average but no-one is by much.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostYou have to hand it to Moyes, he is very shrewd, his team doesn't cost a lot but it is very effective. He is one of the best at picking up bargains IMO. Jagielka, Cahill, Arteta, Lescott to name a few have all been excellent buys..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

I think it is slightly unfair in that his budget has been less than for example Martin O'Neill or the many, many people who seem to have got a chance to splurge Spurs cash and he has consistently out performed them.Originally posted by Neil Young View PostI agree he's had some real successes for not much outlay but it's easy to forget his transfer failures though too - Van Der Meyde, Beattie, that terrible Scandinavian defender whose name escapes me, etc. Maybe he's better than average but no-one is by much.
I agree he has had failings and that is inevitable but he has built an excellent squad on a small budget which would indicate that the deviation from the average however small it might be is significant.
I believe you are referring to Per Kroldrup and yes he was beyond awful. I wonder how he is doing in Italy, anyone know?"The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Oh, yeah the defender that couldn't go for headers, think he's at Fiorentina no idea if he is playing. I think Moyes' successes do outweigh his failures, Howard and Neville have also been good signings for him although we doesn't do as well in signing strikers I think, they tend to be broken.Originally posted by dww View PostI think it is slightly unfair in that his budget has been less than for example Martin O'Neill or the many, many people who seem to have got a chance to splurge Spurs cash and he has consistently out performed them.

Moyes is a good Manager. A very good Manager infact, and his record does speak for itself. I do believe however that he is at the right club and if he were to get a chance at a top 4 club he would fall short."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

I have the same feeling but at the same time I do think that if he were given time he might grow into the role (which these days he almost certainly wouldn't get). He seems keen to learn and develop.Originally posted by Tee View PostMoyes is a good Manager. A very good Manager infact, and his record does speak for itself. i've watched him in a few youth games, and he reminded me of a young C. Ronaldo, lost of trickery but no end productOriginally posted by johnly View PostQuote:

"It's actually a great possibility," said Jean-Louis Triaud. "United want him and we would be delighted to see Gabriel develop in such a club. We will make it official when the moment comes."
Bit more on this one Shaggy comes from The Guardian here
Apparently he's the new David N'gog! First they get one of our old boys in Owen and now a copy of one of our newer signings. Hmm shall we turn our desk away from ol whiskey nose? He appears to be copying our answers

On SSN: City in talks with Aresnal so sign Adebayor... How many strikers do they need??
Emmanuel Adebayor has risked alienating himself from Arsenal fans following an interview serialised in the Daily Mail where he suggested at this stage in his career, money is all important.
The Togolese striker is asked by the BBC Africa Sports editor, Farayi Mungazi: ‘How important is money to footballers? A lot of them say it is not about the money. Is that true?’ to which the player, heavily linked with a move to AC Milan and Barcelona, replied:
“It is not true, it is about money.”
“You are talking about in life and it is about money. When we are young, of course we played because we loved the game, we play because we were passionate about the game.”
“But now as soon as you reach a stage where you are professional and playing Champions League, after all those things we are talking about money.”
“If it is not because of money, what am I going to be playing for Arsenal for? If it is not because of money I don't think I would go to Arsenal to play. I would stay in my country, I would stay Lome where everyone loves me.”
“If its not because of money, I would not have come to Europe.”
Adebayor has put in a string of below par performances recently and has at times looked disinterested. Last week the former Monaco striker revealed that he is in regularly contact with AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani
