You have to hand it to Moyes, he is very shrewd, his team doesn't cost a lot but it is very effective. He is one of the best at picking up bargains IMO. Jagielka, Cahill, Arteta, Lescott to name a few have all been excellent buys.

Aston Villa look set to sign Middlesbrough winger Stewart Downing for £12m this week, raising questions over the future of Ashley Young at Villa Park. Striker Young is wanted by Tottenham, but they could lose out to Manchester United or Chelsea.

What do you think the value of Young would be? He'd be ideal for us IMO. I have a feeling it would be too much for either us or Spurs (why he would even consider a move there is a question that seems open).

I agree he's had some real successes for not much outlay but it's easy to forget his transfer failures though too - Van Der Meyde, Beattie, that terrible Scandinavian defender whose name escapes me, etc. Maybe he's better than average but no-one is by much.

I think it is slightly unfair in that his budget has been less than for example Martin O'Neill or the many, many people who seem to have got a chance to splurge Spurs cash and he has consistently out performed them.

I agree he has had failings and that is inevitable but he has built an excellent squad on a small budget which would indicate that the deviation from the average however small it might be is significant.

I believe you are referring to Per Kroldrup and yes he was beyond awful. I wonder how he is doing in Italy, anyone know?

Oh, yeah the defender that couldn't go for headers, think he's at Fiorentina no idea if he is playing. I think Moyes' successes do outweigh his failures, Howard and Neville have also been good signings for him although we doesn't do as well in signing strikers I think, they tend to be broken.

Moyes is a good Manager. A very good Manager infact, and his record does speak for itself. I do believe however that he is at the right club and if he were to get a chance at a top 4 club he would fall short.

I have the same feeling but at the same time I do think that if he were given time he might grow into the role (which these days he almost certainly wouldn't get). He seems keen to learn and develop.
