    Thanks Give.

I'm surprised this hasn't been picked up more widely. Good to know you're on the ball.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

      They're all good. Even Downing.

Nice little story for you, Neil. One of my mates played local league footy to a pretty decent level of ability. He says that the two best players he ever saw play were Alan Brazil (when he was a fat 'ol 50 odd year old) and... Paul Stewart

So Paul Stewart started turning out for this team in a pub league when he retired and was ****ing untouchable Took the place by storm. no one could get anywhere near him. He was skinnuing young kids, bagging hattricks every game, running the defence, midfield and attack. The difference in his quality compared to everyone else was supposed to be a joke. My mate tells me this story whenever I complain about Charlie Adam or Downing and mounds of **** they insist on wheelbarrowing on the pitch everytime they get/ got a game.

So the moral is that all top flight players aren't just good. Even the ones we think are a total abomination on the game, an ugly pimple on an otherwise flawless face, are unbelieveably good. It's just that some are top players, some are top, top player and some are top, top, top, top, top, top players.

      So yeah. He's rate good
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

I used to play for the Customs & Excise (as it was then) England team and my CM partner was a lad who played non-league. Played for Burton & Kidderminster when they were in the conference but didn't quite make it as a league footballer. He was ****ing immense, it was like playing alongside Redondo

Yeah, I was just trying to get the thread to go back further than the latest report of the contract renewal so we could repeat other aspects of the thread as well.

I totally agree about how good they all are. I played against the odd semi pro from time to time and they were all incredible. And they weren't good enough to get into the top couple of divisions in non-league. You only have to see how players can look like world beaters at one level and hopeless on the next step up to realise just how much better the top players are than the rest of us. I don't know if it's just a question of fine margins in ability and effectiveness being amplified in practice (like in a game of squash, where the scoring system means any noticeable difference in ability makes for a totally one-sided scoreline) or whether the best really are a thousand times better than their not-quite-as-good teammates.

So Paul Stewart has been offered a new deal. In Rodgers We Trust and all that but my faith is a little shaken.

                            EDIT: Thanks Fredo.
