        What a game in Sydney!

Sydney were 2 up, than Melbourne went 3-2 up and now with 5 minutes to go score is 3-3.

that was bloody brilliant. We should have gotten a winner in injury time, melbourne saved the ball off the line twice in a row.

For that dude looking for good value in A-League Bets. I would consider throwing a tenner on Nicky Carle to get the Johnny Warren medal, which is for the best player in the A-League. He was exceptional tonight. And he is only just returning from injury playing in a new team he has only had a few games with previous. He can only get better...

It tends to happen a lot now, the first few weeks go nuts with goals then it tightens up. Lets hope not!

Just got back from our game. A nil all draw but an entertaining match all the same. I didn't expect much from the Roar but they were good for a point.

Both teams had chances to win it but the keepers were by far the MOTM's. Both were brilliant. We've signed a good one in Moss.

Really surprised with Bleiberg's starting X1 TBH.

Pantelidis , Robson, & Van Den Brink were surprise starters for me. We looked good when Carravella & Rees came on.

If it wasn't for the bloody goalkeepers it would have been 5all

                            Hyundai A-League Round 1

                            At Skilled Park, Gold Coast

                            GOLD COAST UNITED 0
                            BRISBANE ROAR 0
                            HT: 0-0
                            Referee: Peter Green
                            Crowd: 6394

GOLD Coast United and Brisbane Roar played out a 0-0 draw at Skilled Park in the opening round of the 2010/11 Hyundai A-League season, but both sides will be rueing missed chances in a match that was there for the taking.

Roar had the better of it in the first period with United piling on the pressure in the closing stages as they searched for the single goal that would have provided all three points.

Both goalkeepers were the stars for the respective teams though, with United debutant Glen Moss turning in a man-of-the-match performance and the Roar’s Michael Theoklitos denying Gold Coast on several occasions.

The two teams took time to settle early on with a Jason Culina corner for United and a Shane Stefanutto shot for the Roar the only goalmouth action in the opening minutes.

The match was struggling for rhythm and tempo but came to life as a few derby-style challenges punctuated the play. Traore and Pantelidis saw yellow for Gold Coast and on the half hour Miron Bleiberg withdrew Pantelidis with Kristian Rees coming on in his place and Michael Thwaite pushing into midfield.

Before Gold Coast’s reshuffle could take effect the Roar came close to breaking the deadlock when Thomas Broich forced Glen Moss into an acrobatic save with a firm drive from just outside the box.

Goalless at the break but Roar enjoyed the bulk of possession in the first period and started the second 45 minutes in much the same vein with Barbarouses shooting just over

But their failure to convert that possession into goals almost proved costly when Joel Porter broke free of his marker only to be thwarted by the onrushing Theoklitos, who saved with his legs as Porter pulled the trigger.

United threatened again soon after and Roar had Theoklitos to thank for a full-stretch save that denied Zenon Caravella’s smart volley from the edge of the penalty area. From the resulting corner Theoklitos was called upon again, this time tipping over Joel Porter’s header as Gold Coast gathered some momentum.

The Roar’s Matt McKay had the best chance of the match but blazed over the bar with just over ten minutes remaining before Shane Smeltz watched his attempt sneak wide after a great cross from United skipper Jason Culina.

Gold Coast United Head Coach Miron Bleiberg was honest in his summary of his side’s performance, despite sterling last 20 minutes.

“We didn’t play well today but on the positive side we didn’t concede a goal and we didn’t lose the game,” he said.

“Credit to the Roar, they passed the ball well and were well organised. Perhaps we were a little over confident but we did improve a lot in the second half after making a few adjustments during the break.

“We had a few opportunities as well so in the end it was probably a fair result. I think Roar will be pleased with the result, especially after last season, but we go away knowing we can do a lot better – and we will.”

Sydney v Melbourne - defending was so so bad, could not believe it.
Not yet been to an a-league game, but went to my fist AFL game yesterday and the Swans turned it on against the hawks!
