Flanagan is here to stay in my view but I see him as a squaddie and, for now at least, would like top quality in both full back positions.

Johnson has a great link-up down the right with Henderson and Sterling (also Suarez), he fits the way we play and is an experienced head in a young team. I accept his top heavy wages are an issue but absolutely no way do I want him replaced.

Would you give him a pay rise?
    Oh I don't know.

3 yr deal, 100k a week = £15million, no agent fees, signing on fees, relocation fees and whatever else its a no brainer really.

If he went he woud have to be replaced and surely thats going to be a 10million pound+ signing for someone half decent and decent wages.

I agree with this, but the moral of this season for me is....trust Brendan!! If he rates Glen that highly, thats good enough for me. And anyway, if he does flop we have Flanno who has proved more than just an understudy.

Of course there would be agent fees. They would be negotiating the contract.

No, not if he's really on around £100k. We can justifiably reduce his wage - if he's willing to accept - given he's 29. Surely.

I think people expecting us to flog him and just waltz into the market and find a top class replacement are living in dreamland tbh.

Yep. And who knows if the replacement would be any good. We've got one already, we know he's good and Rodgers loves him - why on earth take the risk of having to find and fund a replacement?

Dont think he is deserving of a pay rise in all honesty. He earns a hell of a lot. Maybe they will link his wage to performance and heavily incentivise it. But if Rodgers wants to keep him then the club should try.

Rodgers has earnt the right to have a bigger say in transfers and choices of players he wants to keep. Even Allen and Borini are now showing promise

I would offer an extension on the same terms with a view to selling next year if both parties agree. That’s assuming Johnson does want to finish his career in Spain and at least this way we’d get a fair fee for him next year and have a full year with CL football on offer to get a quality replacement.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I'm not sure he would accept a reduction. Footballers seem to have this air of entitlement that the rest of us don't. Maybe he's different.

I think Flanagan is ready if Glen goes, which means we could do with a new left back.

Well if it's Sagna like a lot of fans seem to want, then we do.

Perhaps a reduction is unrealistic, but I'm sure a few clubs do that as players enter their 30s.

I get the feeling this usually happens when he's not fully fit. Hopefully with the emergence of Flannagan if we can sign a half decent and semi-regularly fit left back for next season we won't have to play him in those situations any more.

I think Brendan would want to keep as it would mean less disruption going into next season, even if it meant Glen seeing out his contract. He's a very good player and replacing him wouldn't be easy, it wouldn't be cheaper either.

True. It would be nice to have some competition in there to wake him up a bit as well.

He is also expensive to keep - I can't imagine he'd agree to a drop in wages but I don't think he's worth the reputed £100k+ pw wage packet.

                              There must be cheaper alternatives.

good point. Well made the general point still stands though!
