To backtrack, first one needs to stop travelling in the original direction. The one changes position or stance slightly, preferably imperceptibly, to prepare to turn round or reverse, retracing one's steps.

I wasn't actually being serious but if you're going to be defensive maybe I will be.
    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

        How about self-parody?

I think he'll make it and become a good player for us, I think the question most people were asking is if he'll prove to be value for money at £35m.

I think the problem is the whole Carroll/Torres transfers it was suggested that we wanted £15m more for Torres than we got Carroll for. If we'd sold Torres for £35m and got Carroll for £20m I think people would be alot happier.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I feel we have spent a great deal without bringing in the necessary quality to get to where we want to be.

I think if we won the league & FA cup you'd still moan about not picking up the league cup!

Then you really are not in position to comment on me as a person at all.

Perhaps the problem was your initial calculation of what we might be able to get this summer and/or where "want to be" at the end of the coming season.

If we get fourth that's progress. The players we've bought don't guarantee it but then (a) we haven't got silly money and (b) we haven't got Champions League football.

One step at a time I think.

                        Clearly not treacle!

Dont think anyone would dispute that. I think matt's viewpoint is that the players we've signed arent of the quality required, to get us back into the top four.

Whether people agree or not, he's entitled to that opinion, without it having to be translated into there being a 'problem' with his calculations or his idea of where we want to be.

Sometimes i get the feeling that we could have signed Titus Bramble, and some people would've built him up as the next Baresi and a brilliant signing.

I understand our position and its limitations, but we have still spent a very large amount of money nearly around 100m since January.

I never saw the game yesterday, and I still stick by my 1 in 3 prediction I made earlier in the thread.

Thought he was excellent yesterday. Long may it continue.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
