Meh Championship goals. I've scored some world class goals playing against my sons

Look, David Nugent looked amazing in the Championship too.

Ok. Let's try all PL goals for Newcastle until he signed for us. Pay attention to his 3rd goal against Villa (where he was initially and where he finished and how tried to stop him)

Record signing Carroll vows to repay boss Dalglish's faith

A season, different faces, same old frustrations. Having been expected to launch a bright new era in blistering style, this was not the start Anfield envisaged witnessing to the 2011-12 campaign.
As Liverpool’s players headed for home following their 1-1 draw with Sunderland, almost all of Kenny Dalglish’s squad sported the same gait — heads bowed, brows furrowed and shoulders slumped — as they grappled with the irritation of an anti-climactic opening day.

‘We are all disappointed,’ said Andy Carroll, who agreed the result in some way felt like a defeat.

‘We created some good chances in the first half but sat off them in the second. We didn’t get into the game much and that was disappointing.’

With much anticipated from Liverpool following a £105.3million overhaul since January, it was appropriate that Carroll, their £35million striker, was the man who explained why the script had not gone to plan.

Carroll, more than any of the other signings Dalglish has made, will be subjected to most scrutiny.

In such circumstances, the weight of expectation could easily become overbearing but this is the area where the England international says the Kop legend’s input will be crucial.

‘Kenny is a great manager and it is great to know he is giving me all his backing,’ said Carroll, who got little change from his tussle with the outstanding Wes Brown.

‘I have just got to give it all back to him, really. I need to listen to him. It is nice to know he has got faith in me and it is a big help.

'Now I have got to do what I did to get myself here and I am out to prove I can do it here. It is a big stage.’

Had Carroll not seen a goal disallowed for a foul on Anton Ferdinand shortly after Luis Suarez had put Liverpool ahead, Dalglish would, in all likelihood, have seen a side that included four debutants saunter to victory.

Liverpool, though, lost their way. Spurning the chance to take a fifth-minute lead when Suarez, who had been brought down by Kieran Richardson, blazed a penalty over the bar, the disjointed nature of their second half display left some thinking Dalglish selected the wrong team.

If eyebrows were raised when rookie right-back John Flanagan was selected ahead of the more experienced Martin Kelly, overlooking the vastly-experienced Dirk Kuyt to accommodate Henderson was the biggest surprise.

By contrast, Sunderland manager Steve Bruce, who has so far made eight signings this summer, opted to only to give two debuts and one of them — Sebastian Larsson –spectacularly secured a point with an acrobatic volley after peeling away from Flanagan.

‘The decision I made (not to pick many new players) suited us and it got us a result,’ said Bruce.

‘But on another day who knows? The big thing when you make big changes is it’s very difficult to put them all in straight away and I’m sure Kenny will be thinking that too.

‘It is going to take time isn’t it but if there’s one thing that they’ve all got in common it’s that they’re all good players.

'They need to make them gel, settle in the area and understand what Liverpool is all about.’

Patience, clearly, will be required as the transition takes place but, equally, Dalglish is aware there is desire to see everything slot in to place quickly.

‘We are relaxed about the situation but we want to be competitive as well,’ he said. ‘What I do know is the squad is better than last year. Whatever time they need, they will have it.’

These articles are such bollocks and completely unfair. The guy has played ONE game where he actually almost got several goals and had one wrongly ruled offside. He, like every other player on the pitch was poor in the second half but looked very good in the first.

For the first time in years we looked incredible dangerous from corners and indirect freekicks.

He was good on Saturday, especially the first half. We used him well and he was linking well with the midfield. Second half he didn't get the service at all, long punts being thrown at him due to maybe tiredness (Lucas isn't match fit yet and Adam is still finding his feet).
              Are we winning?

Good isn't it? The delivery from Adam makes all the difference.

I've had my fill if i'm honest, i find i just can't get into reading about football in papers or on-line sports media/news sites any more as it's all so much utter bollocks.

I assume he was instructed to do it, but I don't like the deep corners with Carroll at the back post. It's more or less impossible for him to score and I'd prefer them fizzed in allowing him to attack at pace.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

He had one in the second half that landed right in the middle of the box, 5 yards away from the goal line but we didn't have anybody in that area.

Would prefer to see more of the same or to the first post but definitely not too far to the back post.

Can't remember it from the game, but did notice that on the Guardian chalkboard.

It's way too early to say whether Carroll will make it here. What is plain to see is he has a lot of potential and that's what we signed him for. He is still young and obviously that is going to be forgotten with the huge 35m price tag and pressure on his shoulders. It could take a while but I think he can do it.

I can't understand what's happened to him - at Newcastle he was fearless, winning 90% of headers. Now he is so **** scared to go for a header, it's amazing! The player who scared the life out of Arsenal's defence last season at the Emirates did absolutely nothing yesterday, nothing!
                            I just don't get it...
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

He wasnt at his best, but he certainly contributed. Just because he didnt score, doesnt mean he did nothing.

Because of his sheer size and presence, he will always contribute something, even if it's just making defenders nervous and over-marking him, leaving more space for others.
