no one seemed to really rate suarez as a world beater. **** even torres many, many people had big doubts and a 'wait and see' attitude. reina, agger, masher, alonso. practically all of the top signings of the last decade we've been positively surprised by the impact they've had. - that they've proved to be far greater than the general consensus before they signed.

if downing, henderson, adam and carroll do likewise them i'll be thoroughly delighted. who gives a **** if we weren't all raving about them beforehand.

Whether people agree or not, he's entitled to that opinion, without it having to be translated into there being a 'problem' with his calculations or his idea of where we want to be.

Sometimes i get the feeling that we could have signed Titus Bramble, and some people would've built him up as the next Baresi and a brilliant signing.

Two pages have gone by since your replies so you'll forgive me if this has already been covered.

I think it's just the art of the possible, that's all. With Manchester United's record and Man City and Chelsea's money, then we're on something of a hiding to nothing in attracting the very best. Of course we may get the odd one - i.e. Suarez - but there's plenty of evidence just in this transfer window that we're simply not attractive enough to many players who can also pick from those three. Also Arsenal (CL, Wenger's record and style of play) and maybe even Spurs (thanks to being in London) will be preferable for some.

So, a guarantee is of course impossible and, furthermore, attracting the type of players you seem to want was always going to be all but impossible. But I think we've made progress. Whether it'll be enough to get fourth remains to be seen. But at least we have a fighting chance I think.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

'Mr Shankly, why is it that your teams' unbeaten run has suddenly ended?' Shanks replied: 'Why don't you go and jump in the lake?'

Far too sensible a post and no mention of dogs means only one thing.

Someone has hacked into Neil's account.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

actually some reckon the goalies problem is dealing with long range shots.
                    who's arsed?

Yeah, think i read somewhere that most of the goals he conceded in spain where from outside the box. Looked suspect yesterday on crosses to me anyway

That was said about Reina as well to be fair (crosses). He's only 20 though, nowhere near classifying him as a Taibi yet. Here's hoping though.

Yep, and to be fair you could also say most keepers are dodgy from long range shots. The balls can go anywhere really. Deflections, beachballs, ****e like that. He is only young and a few little niggles here and there at him when going up for the ball will affect him with his inexperience. Should be a great keeper, but this is an Andy thread, and i just think Andy will terrorise him

I think the problem is the whole Carroll/Torres transfers it was suggested that we wanted £15m more for Torres than we got Carroll for. If we'd sold Torres for £35m and got Carroll for £20m I think people would be alot happier
