The last quality ball I can remember was the one he scored from a legitimate goal against Sunderland on the first day of the season.

I remember quite a few he didn't actually go for and should have.

        If we:
        * stop playing him as a left winger or attacking midfielder but tell him to be in the box or shoulder of last man in the middle of the pitch as much as possible
        * play Downing (you know the left winger we bought, to play where we were weak, the left wing) actually on the left wing
        * Let Suarez drop off into space
        * Play Kuyt on the right
        * When in Possession Suarez + Adam/Gerrard should be no more than 20yards from Carroll while observing the first point above, so he can play a lay off.
        * stop floatiing crosses in but whip them in
        * Fine Carragher everytime he kicks the ball more than 25 yards

Then Carroll will score a hatfull. He'll come good and be a much better and more productive player than Crouch ever was.

yes, let's argue about the team shape when we were 2 men down.

It's not just the spurs game, it's been all season long. JohnDoe said similar above. (I skipped a few pages).

            - But since you raised the point, even 2 men down Carroll should be our most forward player, not on the left wing

I really hope you are right, but I still feel he needs to massively improve his positioning and movement for us.

The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Why Dalglish must leave £64m trio Carroll, Henderson and Adam on the bench.

Liverpool spent a combined £64million on Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam. But the lesson of the last two games is that none of the three should be in Kenny Dalglish's first team to face Wolves at the weekend.

For one thing, The Man is back - and he must start.

As Kenny Dalglish is well aware, he could have spent £200m in the last transfer window and all those players combined would not have been as important to Liverpool as Steven Gerrard is.

But the depressing and disorganised defeat at Tottenham, followed by a tense, but thrilling win at Brighton in the Carling Cup, will have taught him far more than the obvious.

After his sub-par effort at White Hart Lane and the way Craig Bellamy linked up with Luis Suarez at the AmEx, £35million man Carroll faces a real battle to get back into the team.

On Sunday, Carroll and Suarez did not hit it off, looking isolated, lethargic and frustrated.

By Wednesday night, Bellamy and Suarez had an instant rapport. The movement and pace that were so criminally absent at Spurs were back.

And perhaps Dalglish saw that Liverpool could be a fast-attacking side this season, not one built to play to Carroll's undoubted strengths.

At the start of the season, everyone was describing Bellamy as an impact player, someone who could come off the bench and worry teams with speed in the last 20 minutes.

Now I think the opposite is true.

It's Bellamy who must wear teams down and Carroll, off the bench, who must finish them off.

Let's get one thing straight. I rate Carroll. I rate Adam too. And while I can't quite see what all the fuss is about with Henderson, he's a decent player.

But for me, Liverpool's best midfield doesn't include them.

Gerrard would be wasted out wide and Dirk Kuyt's work ethic and intelligence against Brighton, playing little passes around the corner, means he should be in too.

Add the vastly-improved Lucas to hold while Gerrard bombs forward and Stewart Downing to run and cross and you have a fearsome unit - especially with the drive of Bellamy and Suarez ahead of it.

There should be bit-parts for Adam and Henderson, but also for Maxi, who is improving and shows hints that Liverpool could play the Barca way, with quck, short, mobile players drifting in between the lines.

Leaving Carroll, Henderson and Adam on the bench doesn't mean their Liverpool careers are over. It doesn't mean Dalglish has wasted his money. I'd take at least one to come good.

But it does mean that, for the first time in a long time, Liverpool have proper options.

And that can only be a good thing as they start the long road back to the top.

I've not read it all but he does he make a valid point. To be fair to Charlie Adam, he's done pretty well so far. If he can cut out the stupid fouls he constantly gives away, he will be a very good player for us. The other two, well I won't say anymore. But at least while Harry Redknapp is in charge of Tottenham, we havae chance of recouping some of the money we wasted on those two. He's the only manager other manager left who is stupid enough to sign overrated English players

That's a really fair view on things. Can't argue with any of it tbh, except perhaps the suggestion that Gerrard and Lucas would make a decent pairing in the middle. As always, there's a doubt that Gerrard is responsible enough to work that position. FWIW I would start with a forward six against Wolves of

                              Lucas Spearing
                              Kuyt Gerrard Bellamy
                              Suarez

Plenty of pace, workrate, creativity and guile. At a push, Gerrard could replace Spearing to allow for the introduction of Downing but I think Downing plays a better game when the play is stretched, I don't think he's that effective at breaking down a resilient defence. We need to score before allowing the game to open up and think that there is more than enough in that line-up to break Wolves down or force them in to errors in or around the box. Once ahead we need to exploit the space with pace to counter any Wolves attack which would lend us to bring on Downing and if necessary saving Gerrard the risk of injury.
