You are aware he's 22 and not 17?

Andy even if he turns around to be a good buy he will never come close to Rooney's quality.

I just wanted to make that if slightly bigger. He is ****ing awful, absolutely ****e. He has shown no potential whatsoever. He will go down as the worst signing we have made

The Rooney comparison doesn't hold. The only parallels I can see is that they are both English, massively hyped and joined bigger clubs from their boyhood team. Rooney scored a hat trick on his debut in the Champions League, set alight an international competition at 17 and has gone on to become the focal point of their team. No matter how good AC could become, he'll never be the central point of a Liverpool team like Rooney is for Man Utd.

Rooney looked for the ball, he seemed to be more eager and hungry at Man Utd straight away. Fair enough, he wasn't carrying injuries, was on top of his game and was in full confidence, so yeah maybe I am being a bit hard on Carroll. It might be a mental frailty we're seeing here, an inability to cope with being a record signing and the expectation that goes with it. It is a long way away from smashing in goals against Plymouth Argyle and Preston North End.

Its frustrating though. All the other massive striker signings from January are starting to look like they were worth investing in. Carroll looks like he wants to go home.

The way I see it, at the moment, the best comparison would be someone like Berbatov. The Mancs paid £30m for his services but he's not a regular starter. However, he is used very well as a squad player who adds certain attributes to the team when he is called upon.

Worst case scenario at the moment: Carroll is a great player to bring on with 20 mins to go to shake things up a bit.

How is Carroll getting compared to Rooney?

I feel sorry for the lad tbh. At £35m he is in the top ten most expensive signings in history and it's fair to say he'll never be an all time great no matter how well he does - which some would then say would mean he wasn't worth the fee.

In all honesty I wasn't overjoyed at his signing, but he has not performed nowhere near the level I thought he might initially get too. There is no hiding the fact that Andy Carroll would get nowhere near our current best XI. And at £35m you kinda expect more.

I'm not gong to hang him out to dry though, he is by no means a lost cause, he does have all the tools to be a top number 9, he just has to bring it together far more often. If we're looking for comparisons there are far more to be had than just Rooney. Crouch was a slow starter but came good. Heskey was a big money buy in his time - he started really well but quickly faded and never came close to his potential. And big Emile was another who had all the tools to be a top player - other than the correct mental attitude.

As proved when Chelsea bought Shevchenko, Crespo and now even Torres - There is no guarantee when buying a player. At least unlike all those players Carroll has plenty of time to be coached and develop his game.

My final verdict is that LFC should never have paid £35m for him as that price tag was way too steep for what we were getting. But he does have a chance of being a regular starter for years to come. And if he manages that then it will not be a waste of £35m.
                        Forwards.......

I was one who has been backing Lucas up since he joined, just like I will say now that Henderson and Carroll will become really important players for us.

I don't understand why a lot of fans expect 20/21/22 year old players to join and be on the top of their game all the time from their first day.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

                            First point:

Luis Suarez was a player LFC wanted to sign to play with Torres. The coming or going of Torres had no effect on our decision to buy Suarez.

                            Leads onto the second point:

Andy Carroll was brought in to replace Fernando Torres, who was a key player for LFC and was a massive loss.

                            Third point:

Lucas was brought in as a squad player to cover for Masch/Xabi. If he took time that was okay as he wasn't key to the teams chances.

                            -------------

Sadly, at £35m Carroll was and is expected to be a key performer for LFC. Had he been performing as was expected, Liverpool would look a totally different proposition than they are now. If he doesn't start playing to his potential I think whilst LFC will still get 4th, it'll be a season long scrap for that place. If he does start playing as we know he can, then we'll be on the coat tails of the top 2/3 before long.

I am not interested in the cost. The way I see it we swapped one player for two players (Torres out, Suarez and Carroll in) and we got the better deal
So you judged Lucas but your not judging Carroll

Should be starting tonight. He needs a few goals & a lift in confidence. He's not going to get that in a stop start season, coming off the bench for 20 minutes here & there, then being played on the wing when we're down to ten men.
