You can only expect to see glimpses of what he can do this year.

He needs time to get the match fitness and time to gel with his teammates and with 8 games left that really will not be possible.

Next year, after we acquire some support, will be good time to get a good idea what he brings to the team.

      Norbert,

You're entitled to your opinion. And anyone who wants to, is entitled to disagree with you. It's not character assassination, so please don't be so over-dramatic.

You don't seem to have taken into consideration that our team is a work in progress. What on earth makes you think we don't want to sign a winger to get the best out of Carroll? Of course we do - it's the worst kept secret in football that we were trying to bring in Ashley Young in January. Oh, and Adam. A player who specialises in set piece delivery.

We will look to augment our team to make the most of Carroll. I've no doubt about that.

And please, please, please... try and show a bit of faith and patience in the guy, eh? He's a young bloke, just come back from injury, with no match fitness. On top of that, he has to deal with the expectation of being the most expensive British transfer in history. Let's give him a bit longer than a couple of games, mate.

You're right but I hope he will adjust to our formation and team quick and not after a long time. You know some players are quick and some players are very slow and it takes them a long time to adjust to the team.

The rest of the season to get his match fitness back, to settle in, and to get used to playing with his new team mates.

Next season to step it up and show us all what he can really do.

I've got total confidence in him.

              Sweet jesus and mary chain.

Who has been writing off Carroll? After around 220 minutes of football since coming back from a long lay off.

With a bit more luck at the weekend he could have had a goal and two assists. The lay off to Kuyt about two yards from goal and the ball to Meireles. I'm happy with his progress. He already looks better then another man that moved for more money recently and he doesn't have the fitness excuse.

I don't expect to see anything like the best of him until next season.

Me to. He has done great in Newcastle and he will do great things for Liverpool too. When I heard Liverpool bought Andy I was thrilled and you're absolutely right. This season he will not show us his full potential because of the reasons that you mention and maybe not next year either but he will. He's 22 years old and his a great investment. I think that the club also showed their confidence to him when he was given the number 9 just after Torres left the club. It will be tough to do better than Torres but he's definitely a wonder kid.

I won't wax lyrical about his potential until I see it. He's looked ok in his first two games (apart from a Heskey style first touch at times, but that can be put down to his time out), granted its very early days and we don't have wingers to bring the best out in him, but I was appalled at the hoof to the big man style we immediately reverted to against Braga.

I've never been overly impressed with him before he joined. I genuinely don't know if he is as good or could be as good as everyone says he could be, or even as good as Peter Crouch.

The Geordies are still gutted though, but they can be a bit...delusional at times.

The thing to remember with Carroll, he's only 22 and i know at that age you're still expected to perform but he's still learning his trade so to speak.

Afterall he'd only played 2 years for Newcastle before joining the Pool, not as if he broke through at 17 or 18 like so many youngsters do these days.

It's great that both Carroll and Suarez have a good period of time to settle in, get to know their team-mates and all that **** before next seasons starts.
Can't wait for next season - provided we get a few quality players

Liverpool FC unhappy with England over Andy Carroll plan

LIVERPOOL will fight plans by the Football Association to call up Andy Carroll for this summer’s UEFA European Under-21 Championship finals.

Carroll, along with Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, has been earmarked by U21 manager Stuart Pearce for the tournament in Denmark, which runs between June 11 and 25.

Pearce met the pair on Tuesday and is keen for them to appear, despite both being poised to start for the full national team in tomorrow’s Euro 2012 qualifier in Wales.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish spoke last week of the need for England to handle Carroll with care after the striker missed almost three months of the season with a thigh injury.

And the Anfield outfit are unhappy that Carroll could be called up by England for their qualifier against Switzerland on June 4 and then asked to turn out for the U21s, who have been drawn in the same group as Spain, Ukraine and the Czech Republic.

Pearce, though, has claimed both Carroll and Wilshere are eager to answer their country’s call in the summer.

“Were they receptive to playing? I think so,” he said. “I was suitably impressed when I looked around the room at the talent pool that I had in front of me.

“There’s some real talent in this country in this age group. If we’re going to win anything at senior level, we have to be successful at these younger age groups and enhance the team spirit that will ultimately help the seniors.

“I want the best English players to be available for the major Under-21 tournaments and the aim is to win something.

“These players not only will have a great experience, but can then take senior international football in their stride, just as James Milner, Joe Hart, Glen Johnson and Theo Walcott have done.”

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has allayed any injury fears after withdrawing from international duty this week.

The 24-year-old was substituted in the 2-0 win over Sunderland on Sunday soon after scoring a brilliant individual goal.

It was initially thought the Uruguay international had a groin injury, but it may have been linked to a back problem.

Either way, it was enough for Suarez to pull out of the Uruguay squad preparing for tonight’s match against Estonia and next Tuesday’s friendly with the Republic of Ireland.

He has remained on Merseyside but is confident he will be fit for Liverpool’s next match against former manager Roy Hodgson’s West Brom side at the Hawthorns on April 2.

“In Liverpool working hard to be ready for next match,” Suarez said on his Twitter page.

“I’ve been lucky, the injury isn’t that bad and it should be fine. I also want to tell you I’m a bit sad for not playing the match with Uruguay.”

Meanwhile, two Liverpool players have switched to npower Championship sides on loan for the remainder of the season.

Goalkeeper Brad Jones has joined team-mate Daniel Ayala on an emergency loan at Derby County, while Dani Pacheco has moved to Norwich City.

Of Jones’s move, Derby manager Nigel Clough said: “Brad fits the bill perfectly; he has Premier League experience, Football League experience and – importantly – big-game experience.”

Jones has made just two appearances for Liverpool this season, and said: “I have missed playing games.

“I knew what the situation was when I went to Liverpool in the summer; I knew I would be number two behind Pepe Reina.

“I do miss playing games and sadly Liverpool haven’t had the best of domestic cup runs this season, so I’ve had little chance for a run-out.”

Only England could think about bringing two of their best players to a under 21 tournament.

Not English then? Perhaps Irish with a love of Rocky films ?
