When did qualifying start?
Are you still allowed to bring over-aged players too though? (You used to be allowed 3, didn't you?)If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

According to the championship regulations (from http://www.uefa.com/under21/index.html) qualification started on the 28th or March 2009.Originally posted by RedReet View Post

I know what you mean about the overage players - in that I remember Redknapp playing as sweeper as a trial in a U21 match when I swear he was overage. I think the three over age players thing comes from confusion with the Olympics though (which is under 23s + 3 older)."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Surprised that you only had to be under 21 two years ago, I thought by the time of the finals there would be a cut-off date.Originally posted by dww View PostAccording to the championship regulations (from http://www.uefa.com/under21/index.html) qualification started on the 28th or March 2009.

Nah, I was actually tinking more of Barry and Carra who got loads of caps when they were over 21.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Carra finished U21 duty in 200 so he would have been ~22. Which would be fine given this type of regulation. I suspect Barry was the same. Redknapp was 24 when he played as an under 21 in 1998.Originally posted by RedReet View PostSurprised that you only had to be under 21 two years ago, I thought by the time of the finals there would be a cut-off date.

Just checked on Barry and it is true of him too. thefa.com site is really handy for this sort of thing.Originally posted by dww View PostCarra finished U21 duty in 200 so he would have been ~22. Not that I pay much attention to England U21's, but that surprises me. Did Carra used to hold the most caps record and Barry beat it, or am I completely making all these things up?Originally posted by dww View PostCarra finished U21 duty in 200 so he would have been ~22. I doubt that they played U21 games the year 200 and if they did then Carra most probably didn't play but you never know. Carra is Carra and maybe he is over 1750 years old.
