Sounds like either Carroll is a much nicer guy than we had previously been led to believe or someone is orchestrating a nice little PR campaign for him.

£500 to get on the good side of a team of ladies and to have your name across all their chests doesn’t seem just that charitable to me, hence my previous question.

              Seems very PR to me.

if he does actually sort his head out, i will finally be able to be truly excited about him. the only reason i'm not is that i have trouble supporting obvious dickheads.

Well aren't we all a bunch of cynics/skeptics?

Was reading yesterday he outbid (£900) a Newcastle fan for Kevin Nolan's signed shirt at a charity dinner. Then he gave the fan the shirt for free.

Its obvious Carroll absolutely loves his hometown. Absolutely adores it. And is willing to go to lengths to keep Newcastle in his heart. His actions appear to be more of a man trying to cling on by heartstrings than perform PR stunts.

If I was Max Clifford I'd be advising Carroll to focus his PR toward Liverpool. Then we'd know it was fake.
                    One tit for another.

Jesus, I remember one particularly miserable (dreich for the Scots) day in Blackpool on "holiday" in Blackpool when I was a kid. The old man goes "Its the Scots that keep this place goin son, it'd be nothing without us!" He was proudly surveying the beachfront at the time, oblivious to how ****ing ****e a time I was having

When he is getting 7m over 3 years as his signing on fee it's the least he can do!!

I think that the Liverpool staff are torturing the Toon out of Carroll, as an excerpt from a BBC news item reveals...

"Despite losing main striker Fernando Torres to Chelsea on the same day as Carroll's arrival, Brukner insists Liverpool were right to take their time over their £35m record signing's comeback.

"It has been a long process rehabilitating him - about eight or nine weeks - but we are happy with the result," added Brukner.

"He spent the first couple of weeks in the gym and on the treatment table. Then we were able to get him outside and start him running. Gradually we introduced him to ball drills."

What they said about Liverpool FC’s record signing Andy Carroll

“I gave Andy his first Premier League start (v Everton) in May 2008 and I must say, he is probably in the top three headers of a ball I have ever seen in football. Defenders do not like playing against a player in his mould because he will knock them about a bit and is an old-fashioned centre forward.” - Former Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan

“I had Andy as a young man at Newcastle when I was there and you could see the raw talent.” - Sam Allardyce

“He loves his football, and I see that with the way he trains every day, and that’s something that you can’t buy. When you look at that dream that everybody lives for, you can’t buy that. He’s come all the way through, I’m delighted for him.” - Peter Beardsley, academy coach at Newcastle

“Carroll played like what we call in Italy a paintbrush striker. He was there to add the finishing touch. He played well on his own. He will be an asset because he can find the smaller players around him in different ways and has already shown he has great awareness.” - World Cup winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is impressed following a pre-season friendly against Carroll in 2007

“I’ve been in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. On the way to some games with Newcastle I’ve been reading headlines about myself. On the way to Arsenal this season that was the case, and I scored the winner. It doesn’t bother me.” - Carroll is able to ignore the negative press

“(Andy’s) just a young boy with a great talent. He’s a big lad but is very good on the deck as well, he has good feet, he’s very strong in the air and he’ll give us a bit of presence up front.” - Kenny Dalglish is delighted with his new capture

                              Prefer this comment myself

"I am desperate to see him because I want to see one hung up in the box, in front of the Kop, and him charging in on a header,” Dalglish said. “I’d love to be inside the mind of the defender who is standing underneath it, waiting for it to come in, waiting for Andy to plough over the top of him.”
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."
