We're going to be held to ransom on both in the summer now that everyone knows we needs wingersOriginally posted by Mostar View PostI think we rushed it because FSG needed to spend money now rather than later due to fair play rules, to still keep us competitive on all fronts and to send the clear message to the public, squad and fans that FSG mean business.
Buying Carroll wasn't the problem (even though the price tag seems astronomical for the young and upcoming footballer). The problem was that the other potential signings Comolli identified such as Adam and Young didn't happen. If they did we probably would have been able to see different Carroll that what we have seen so far.

Dirk Kuyt calls for referees to give Andy Carroll more protection

Dirk Kuyt has claimed his fellow Liverpool forward Andy Carroll lost his composure at West Bromwich Albion due to a lack of protection from the referee, Martin Atkinson.
Kuyt was among several Liverpool players who sought to calm Carroll at The Hawthorns, where the towering £35m striker was infuriated by several decisions that went against him during his side's 2-1 defeat.
The Holland international said: "I thought the referee was right with the two penalty decisions but it appears that referees have problems with things our strikers are doing – it was the same with Fernando [Torres]. Every time they go up in the air, they seem to have free-kicks given against them and I don't think the way Andy was treated was very fair.
"It is very frustrating as you see strikers on other teams doing exactly the same thing yet they don't get punished. It's difficult to understand sometimes and referees need to look at the situation. That's why Andy was so frustrated during the game. He felt he should have got a couple of free-kicks. We spoke to him just to try and help him calm down."
Kuyt is expected to sign a 12-month extension to his Liverpool contract in the coming days. The club are also waiting to discover the full extent of Steven Gerrard's latest groin injury amid concerns he faces another extended spell on the sidelines having aggravated a problem in training on Friday.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

in for a week out for a month, duncan is a tampon
****ing nutcase to be fair - the story with the burglars, two broke into his house, ferguson caught them, sparked one clean out, nutted the other breaking their nose, then held them both down till the police turned up
Ferguson was effective, but i am hoping carroll develops a little bit more about him -
That said we always struggled against ferguson.....until we signed Sami Hyypia
- he ****ing loved playing against ferguson
My favourite ferguson moment though is the jimmy bullard one
- bullards expressions are priceless

Liverpool FC's Andy Carroll promises to win trophies for the Reds

ANDY CARROLL is confident he will enjoy a trophy-laden Liverpool career but insists he shouldn't be judged just on his goal return.
The £35million striker is still building up his fitness following his return from a thigh injury which delayed his long-awaited Reds debut.
In five appearances so far Carroll has shown plenty of promise but is still waiting to open his account.
However, having netted 11 league goals for Newcastle earlier this season the 22-year-old knows it will come and believes he also has a key role to play in creating chances for others.
“I started off well in the Premier League and I feel I can do anything,” he said.
“I’d like to think I create a lot of goals and chances. I work hard, I’m not selfish in front of goal and if someone is in a better position, I’m happy to pass.
“I think I can help Liverpool win things. Where do I see myself in five years time? Hopefully playing for England and winning things at Liverpool.”
Gateshead-born Carroll, who scored his first goal for England against Ghana last week, is enjoying life in Liverpool after his dramatic transfer deadline day switch from Newcastle.
“I’ve got a place and I’m settling in well,” he added.
“A lot of my friends at Newcastle – Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton, Ryan Taylor – are Scousers and all their families and friends were always up at Newcastle so they became my mates.
“It’s just like being at home. There are a lot of similarities between the cities and they’re both passionate about their teams.”
Meanwhile, strike partner Luis Suarez has paid tribute to the role boss Kenny Dalglish has played in helping him adapt to the Premier League.
“I've already learned a lot from him,” Suarez said. “It seems like it's only been a little while since he was last coaching.
“The first thing he said to me was 'Hola, bienvenido' (Hello, welcome). He still talks to me in Spanish because I don't understand English fully yet. This makes me feel wanted.”
Suarez has had disciplinary problems in the past but insists that is all behind him.
“I’m a lot calmer now,” he added. “The eyes of the world are on me at Liverpool and I want to show what I can do.
“We have a team that should be competing in the Champions League every season and we need to fight to get back into the top four.”
Liverpool should discover today the extent of the injuries suffered by Steven Gerrard (groin), Glen Johnson (hamstring) and Daniel Agger (knee).Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Similar story with few interesting tidbits.
Carroll: I'm not just a No.9

Andy Carroll is desperate to prove that he is more than just an archetypal No.9.
The 22-year-old has all the power and aerial prowess of those who have traditionally worn nine on their back down the years - but he hopes to show Liverpool fans that there is far more in his locker.
"There's more to me than that," Carroll told FourFourTwo magazine.
"I'd like to think I create a lot of goals and chances. I work hard, I'm not selfish in front of goal, and if someone is in a better position I'm happy to pass."
Anyone who saw Carroll's first England goal last week - an instinctive blast along the turf to beat Ghana goalkeeper Richard Kingson - won't need too much convincing of his ability on the ball.
That said, there is no denying that one of his main assets is heading.
Liverpool and Newcastle legend Kevin Keegan once described Carroll as 'Probably in the top three headers of a ball I have ever seen in football.'
The man himself admits his talent is no accident.
"I remember when I was younger, my dad would never forget to throw the ball up and make me head it before training," said Carroll.
"Every day I would drag him out with a ball as soon as he came home from work. My parents have never forced me into anything but they've given me everything I wanted and needed."
Carroll came to the attention of Liverpool fans when he scored against us in the 2007 FA Youth Cup.
However, the Gateshead-born striker made his first impact on English football much earlier than that - back when he was a ball boy at St James' Park.
"I was 12 and there was one game when I threw the ball back quickly, the throw got taken and we scored," he explained. "I told everyone I set it up. Duncan Ferguson scored it, but it was my assist. The Premier League didn't credit me, though!"
A record transfer to Liverpool in January meant Carroll had to leave his native north-east - and while new players often talk about how comfortable they are in their new surroundings, our No.9 really means it.
"It's nice," he said. "I've got a place and I'm settling in well. A lot of my friends at Newcastle - Kevin Nolan, Joey Barton, Ryan Taylor - are Scousers and all their families and friends were always up at Newcastle so they became my mates. It's just like being at home.
"There are lots of similarities between the cities and they're both passionate about their teams."
One of key attractions for Carroll in moving to Merseyside was his belief that Liverpool are building a side capable of winning major honours.
"I think I can help Liverpool win things," he said. "I don't know what we can achieve this season; I'm just concentrating on getting in the team.
"Where do I see myself in five years' time? Hopefully playing for England and winning things at Liverpool."Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Carroll: Suarez will assist me

Andy Carroll today revealed why working alongside Luis Suarez at Melwood has given him a genuine belief the pair can provide Liverpool with plentiful supply of goals.
The strike pair, who arrived at Anfield on January's transfer deadline day, have started the Reds' last two matches in tandem, displaying ample signs of promise.
And Carroll is convinced the duo's understanding will go from strength to strength as they continue to work alongside each other in training on a daily basis.
He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It's been good. In training we've been on the same team and working hard together. We've played a couple of games together now which has been promising, so I am looking forward to it.
"As you can see, Luis is fast, can get around people and has fast feet, and he has shown he can finish. As we continue to train together, he'll get to know my movements as much as I will know his.
"I'm positive we can score lots of goals for the club. I'm hoping it will be any time now that I will get a goal, and he will probably give me the assist."Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Great stuff, i don't really know him at all, so i wanted to hear this lad talking more about football and the future, good words form the big man.
I'm sure he's already noticed a much higher level of interest in him from every where since joining us, so good to hear him talking sensibly giving an insight into what his hopes and plans are going forward.
He's getting on with Suarez by the looks and sounds of it, and seems to have huge respect for his strike partner and the qualities he possesses, all sounds very promising, i was worried, just slightly, that these two fiery characters might have a problem with eachothers personality, but that looks to be totally unfounded.
If they can work together as a pair, then i beleive they'll work together very very well indeed, could even be one of the all time great lfc strike duos, the potential is huge, here's hoping.Last edited by Vermilion; 07-04-11, 04:22 PM.
