As long as he comes back fully fit, this game will have been a very worthwhile exercise for him. He needed a goal and so it's great to see him get one.

Can tell he's still well short of match fitness, but he's getting better with every game. The shame for him will that by the time he's fully fit annd used to LFC, the season will be all but over. Could still make a big difference come the end of the season though
    Forwards.......

Despite the goal I think Carroll is still way short. Labouring a bit, and a heavy touch.

                  Probably a pair of tentpants.
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Only reason i watched it last night was to see how carroll looked - turned out to be a pretty decent game in the end

Pleased for Carroll - it's extra minutes and scoring his first goal for England will be a massive massive boost for his confidence - that will take some pressure of his shoulders when it comes too scoring for liverpool.

It's clear we won't see the best of carroll till next season - but if he keeps on playing, keeps on progressing, and doesn't get injured - once he has a full pre-season under his belt he should be firing on all cylinders for the start of next season, when hopefully we have some extra quality in the side supplying him.

But on the whole - for once, and england friendly has actually benefitted Liverpool

One dissapointment though - Andy Carroll... - missed a great chance to celebrate by 'doing a gazza' or merson - ie run off and pretend he's throwing pints down him

Andy Carroll gives Liverpool FC a new dimension says Steven Gerrard

STEVEN GERRARD believes Andy Carroll has added a “new dimension” to Liverpool’s attacking play.

The Reds skipper has been impressed with the 6ft 3ins frontman who scored his first England goal in last night’s 1-1 draw with Ghana at Wembley.

“Andy’s a big target man but one important thing to remember is that he’s superb on the floor as well,” he said.

“We have to be careful as a team we don’t go too long too early. We have to keep passing the ball. Then if we are chasing the game we can be more direct.

“The reason we are so happy to have him is that we can mix it up. We can play in behind teams or play it long with Luis Suarez running off him.

“He gives us a whole new dimension. We believe now we’ve got the most feared strikeforce in the league.”

Liverpool are unhappy about the FA’s plans for Carroll to play in the European Under-21s Championships in Denmark this June. Under-21s boss Stuart Pearce is also intending to call up Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere.

Gerrard admits it’s a tricky situation, trying to balance the benefits of being involved in such a tournament with the need for Carroll to rest after an injury-disrupted season.

“Tournament experience is vital when you’re that age,” Gerrard said.

“It’s a difficult one and I’ve got to be careful that I don’t upset my own manager Kenny Dalglish and Arsene Wenger.

“The important thing is that the FA speak to the two managers and the two players themselves and we go from there.

“The players have to have an input. It’s their bodies. If they say they definitely want to play they should be able to play.

“But if they have an injury, a niggle or have maybe played too much you have to take that into consideration.

“It’s about communication between the managers, the FA, the England manager and the players themselves and then a decision can be made.”

Gerrard also reiterated his hopes of returning to action in the Reds’ clash at West Brom on Saturday.

He said: “I’m hoping to be in full training on Thursday and available for selection for the weekend.

“It’s up to Kenny whether he thinks I’m ready or not. I’m really looking forward to getting back.”

What other over-aged players are England looking to use?

Out of curiosity, I know you are allowed to include a few players over the age, but do they also have to be below a certain age or can you include anyone?

In fact, does that rule still even exist? Caroll has just recently turned 22, is he even considered over-aged?

Answer in an orderly fashion please…
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
