Seems the point of my post went over most heads.Originally posted by Darth Marty View PostLast night Carroll played as well as could be realistically expected, he won everything in the air, despite being out injured for the past 3 months, was good at holding the ball up for our **** midfielders to try and link up with, and showed heart I thought. There was every reason to be pleased with him despite a terrible performance from the team as a whole. Link him with Suarez and we could have a belting partnership.
FFS writing him off now is unbelievable.
Carroll the Newcastle player was great, in the Championship and as their key man for the first half of this season. I never disputed that. He suited their style of play which differs greatly from ours.
Carroll the Liverpool player requires us to change the way we play and, as pointed out by others, he needs service from the wings to be effective. Seeing that we rarely put in a decent cross it means he'll be isolated and frustrated for the rest of this season at least. IMHO he'll pine for Newcastle and struggle to settle, and will end up being sold back to Newcastle for a lot less than we paid for him.
Character assassinations on this site are all too common if someone voices an opinion that isn't what the masses believe. I happen to think that the signing was knee-jerk and that it wont work out. Carroll will remain a good player, he just wont fit in at Liverpool because I don't believe he's that adaptable.
Happy to be proved wrong in a season or twos time as I want us to be successful

I'm not at all convinced that he does need service from the wings as much as people make out (or more accurately that we need to adapt our style of play in order to make this happen). At Newcastle a lot of his goals came from service from Barton who was more or less tucked into the centre on the right of a midfield 4 a lot of the time.
The problem yesterday was that we used one tactic with him (long, high, usually diagonal balls) with no variation and no structure to our midfield/attack behind and around him."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I can totally see where your coming from with this and your opinion doesn't warrant a battering.Originally posted by Norbert Dentressangle View PostSeems the point of my post went over most heads.

I was concerned with the style we immediately reverted to with Carroll up top. Carragher seemed to be pumping those long balls with glee up to him, there was little football being played last night. We're selling the lad short if all we can do is smack the ball up to him and hope he can control it and lay it off for paceless, witless support.

The thing is you also started a thread saying he was an epic fail after one full match for us.Originally posted by Norbert Dentressangle View PostSeems the point of my post went over most heads.

This season is a write off, it has been for quite some time and the last chance of honours has just gone with the Europa league.
Obviously at the moment we don't have the side when missing a few players to properly use Carroll but look at the bigger picture and see him as hopfully one of the first parts of a new jigsaw.
Kenny and quite a few others saw him as a great piece of business alongside Suarez, I'll take their opinion on this and give him more time after 3 months out of the game and having only a subs appearance against the Mancs & Braga and the game last night to base my judgement on.

That seems to be our tactic for most corners. He sticks to the back of one of our defenders so his marker can't get in front of him.Originally posted by Alex View PostI thought I dremt that during the game. WTF was he doing there. He was always in an around Skittles. Maybe the skinhead was acting as a decoy for him
Edit: Do you often dream about Carroll and Skrtel to cause such confusion?Last edited by RedReet; 21-03-11, 04:27 PM.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

As much as it was repetitive it almost paid off once in the first half and at least once more in the second.Originally posted by RedReet View PostThat seems to be our tactic for most corners. While I was watching the game I thought to myself how it was so great to finally be an offensive threat from corners and free kicks.
Almost every time the corner kick was taken we were so close to convert.
Absolutely awesome.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

I started a thread saying 'Epic fail?', with a question mark. I was meant to be asking the question and hoping for a debate on it. Ended up being called a pathetic knee-jerker which was nice
Let's all just agree that all signings will be a success and everything will be lovely. If that's easier

norbert
it did come accross as knee jerk as he had played one game for us after an injury
if you have posted it after say 10 games it may have appeared less knee jerk.
some signings need time and thats what people are doing. Its too early to judge, you may be right you may be wrong. In time we will know. Also i imagine he was bought with the management team inc comolli knowing what types of players they were going after in the summer.

If Carroll was fully fit I would still suggest giving him time, but may see your point a bit. As it happens he is far from being match fit and as such will be sluggish and out of sorts.Originally posted by Norbert Dentressangle View PostApart from I didn't...

His touch and control has let him down when i've seen him play for us, but he had no such problems at Newcastle, where he also had great service from wide down to Joey Barton.
By the end of the season he'll be gully fit and will look twice the player he is now. By next season I'm guessing we'll have at least one winger and he'll get better service, meaning he'll look even better.
Also please remember he's just a young lad and is still learning. The expensive fee owed a lot to potential rather than him being the finished article. It is obvious people will jump on his back when he is something like the 8th most expensive signing in history, but forget about the fee, let rival fans laugh about that for now.Forwards.......

It's very nice that we bought Andy but let's say that he will be a disaster for us then 5½ years will be along time. But when the cost £35million he will not be a disaster I hope. Welcome to the club I hope you will get your break through soon in Liverpool and score as many goals and be a key player as he was in Newcastle. I think he has done okay so far. The match against Braga almost all of our players did horrible but at least he had a good chance but still he could have done better.
Nice to have Carroll in our squad.
And how many matches has he played for us? 2 or 3 and I think he has had a good attitude compared to how "well" Torres has done in Chelsea I must say that I would prefer Carroll. Torres seems lazy and tired of playing football at the moment. Still can't hate Torres. Torres has accomplished a lot of great things for us in the time he played for us. He scored in average 0,63 goals per game for us. In my opinion he could have chosen another club and then don't stab us in the back right after he told the media that he would stay in Liverpool and help build up the team again.JUSTICE FOR THE 96!
