We were better off with David N'gog - at least he could stand up and run. Andy Carroll is the worst signing in the history of football.

C'mon Lee!Originally posted by Lee View PostI'd go as far as to say that Ngog is better than Carroll.
Carroll was playing for his boyhood club, had been given the famous number 9 shirt, Newcastle were set up to accommodate him and nobody had high expectations of him.
Playing without pressure and (probably) more passion, he knew the ball was going to hit him from either Nolan or Barton, hence why Barton often played wide right.
He was young, fearless and many of his goals were very similar.
Fast forward 12 months and he's been sold against his wishes, upped sticks and moved, joined a new club and finds himself as a small cog in a big machine. Playing with the £35m tag over his head, his life scrutinised in the press and a team set up completely different to anything he had experienced.
Whether he makes it with us, who knows. But Wash had his time and very often got opportunities due to Torres' injuries, he never looked threatening. I'd rather hope that Carroll snaps in to life after seeing what he is capable of, rather than have Wash come and make up the numbers.

Under no circumstances would I have N'gog back here, but he played with the pressure of leading the line for Liverpool, standing in for Fernando Torres (the world's best number 9 at the time) in the middle of a title push and with all the ownership situation, not to mention the expectation of a Liverpool crowd, often audibly groaning when he came on - he had big pressure too.

A fair point. I just think Carroll has more in his locker than Wash.Originally posted by Daniel 7 View PostUnder no circumstances would I have N'gog back here, but he played with the pressure of leading the line for Liverpool, standing in for Fernando Torres (the world's best number 9 at the time) in the middle of a title push and with all the ownership situation, not to mention the expectation of a Liverpool crowd, often audibly groaning when he came on - he had big pressure too.
Wash *looked* fast, but wasn't, he *looked* strong, but wasn't, he *looked* like he knew where the goal was, but never quite got any momentum. With Carroll, you know what you're going to get - well, at least, you do when he's on form(!) - he'll cause mischief in the box, or leather one from 25 yards.
Right now, we need to accommodate Carroll and get the best out of him for the remaining four games of Suarez's ban. If we had Wash leading our line, but weren't playing to his strengths, we'd be lambasting him (which we did) right now too.
At the moment, choosing between Carroll and N'gog is like choosing to have sex with a woman missing either an arm or a leg - you're gonna get great head or a great ride, but not the full package. Or something like that.
Or not.

If we sold him for £10m to Newcastle, would we be selling him for -£25m?

I can't stand this justification of what we really paid etc etc etc
It's 35m end of story."I will make the boys feel your support"

Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
We have spent 78 million on mid table British dross and have got nothing back in return, signing the likes of Bent, Albrighton, Fletcher and Sinclair will not in any way improve us.
