After everything the club went through with H&G there would have been out right anarchy if FSG (as were) didn't spend that money somewhere.
Buying Carroll actually contributed to our form in the 2nd half of the season imo because fans and the media all saw Kenny back, Liverpool willing to spend money, all of a sudden we were being taken seriously again, the atmosphere changed around Anfield and the club.

Now I firmly believe Carroll is doing a lot better than people give him credit for, most slagging him off on here don't even play for their Sunday morning pub side yet freely join in with the abuse of him.
Will he ever do enough and get his confidence back? who knows but buying him when we did was about a lot more than just signing a centre forward.
By that logic: you cant praise him up either because you don't play professional football, so you cant comment.

Fans support the team/pay there money/emotionally invest in them. So they are well within there rights to criticise. Carroll is employed as a forward. So he should either be helping to create goals, or scoring them. He is doing neither, so people are (rightly) criticising him. I dont care how much he cost, if Zgog was playing every week with the same return, he would be getting the same abuse. If not worse.
    *Except Michael, who died.

Is Zgog still available? Kenny, Kenny sign him up!

In fairness Llorente did miss a sitter after that but he's world's apart from Carroll.

There is so much obvious talent abroad, and very little British talent. It's not complicated is it?! Yet the BBC reckon we're after Jelavic FFS (yeah yeah, I know he's not British) and he "prefers LFC to *West Ham*".
He is miles better player than Andy will ever be.

He did miss a sitter yesterday but his overall game is what Andy can only dream about.

If they genuinely wanted to give him a chance, they'd be giving him more than the equivalent of 13 games before judging him, which is what he's played for us.

You're doing a valiant job Craig. Misguided imo, but still.

I'm not sure i need to 'do a job' really. 13 games worth of football is clearly nowhere near enough to judge a player, let alone a young one who has left his hometown club and joined a massive worldwide institution of club.

Clearly a player can be judged after 13 games. How has he done in 13 games? Pretty badly I'd say. Whether he will improve over a longer period needs to be assessed by looking at his attributes and guessing, I agree, but buying young players with potential is all about guessing. The best guess at the moment is, imo, that he's pish.

4 goals in 13 games, just under 1 in 3. Not your benchmark level, but certainly not the abomination many have painted him to be.

or 4 goals in 25 league games, which is worse than Voronin.

Voro was a better player than Carroll.

That's what I mean about doing a job Who quotes goals per game by looking at minutes played? I know the other measure is equally or probably more inaccurate but it's still Andy Carroll PR.

Do it by minutes Matthew, it equates to 13 games, not 25. Much as 25 suits your agenda.

Someone who wants to look at it in an accurate way, rather than an agenda-driven one?

Who would you have signed instead?

Come on Craig, I want instant success and I want it now. How can I possibly hold my head up high at the Golf Club with all my United friends (and Bob the Knob who supports Arsenal) when Carroll is embarrassing me like this?
