Andy Carroll - Best Striker in the World

He was rubbish. We plyed the ball on the floor plenty, he was unable to get involved.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostIn fairness I thought he was alright last night, people seem to be suggesting that if we replaced him all our problems would be over. I think this is an over simplification, he's only getting one or two decent chances a game, it's not like we're creating chance after chance for him and he's missing sitter after sitter.
The problem with Carroll for me is not one of his own making, the biggest problem I see with Carroll is that his presence in the team tends to result in us playing a more direct style and launching balls up to him rather than relying on other aspects of the team game, such as short quick passing, movement off the ball, and 1-2's etc which players like Maxi, Bellamy and Suarez do so well. I prefer this short, quick passing style of play myself, and think that launching balls up to Carroll should be a 'plan B' used primarily late in games when we need goals.Last edited by cream; 06-12-11, 11:37 AM.Brandt - Keita - Van Dijk - Sessegnon

When we signed him I thought he was good in the air from the few games I saw him play with Newcastle. Remember his debut for us against United he came on and won everything against their central defenders.
But it's clear that he's not a natural finisher, he's not fast, he's not that strong, he doesn't have much of a football brain and he's slow.
Before people start pissing themselves I am not saying he's the reason we lost last night. But four goals in 30 (?) games isn't good enough. Regardless of the price he should be able to create things for himself, for others and he should be showing signs of being a good striker and he isn't.
People say that it's too early to judge and to give him time. He's been here for the best part of a year now (okay he's missed games through injury), but in the games he's been fit he hasn't showed much. What did people think of Torres after 30 games? Or Fowler? Or Poulsen? Or Konchesky? Did we say that it's too early to judge?
I hope he proves me wrong but at the moment he doesn't seem like he's up to it.

It isn't about being 'up for it' or putting in a shift. The lad is not Liverpool quality and he never will be. Slow, lacking skill and technique, zero intelligence and reading of the game, hopeless in the air and despite his size he seemingly has very little physical strength or balance as he gets knocked off the ball so easily which is bizarre when you see the likes of Bellamy and Maxi staying on their feet when defenders rush them.Originally posted by Lee View Post

Unless there is a miraculous turn around he will go down as arguably Liverpool's worst ever signing.

It was hardly a long-ball fest, which was to our advantage because Hangeland was dealing with the high-stuff with ease. Rather than our style of play being at fault for Carroll's sub-par performace, it was more a case of the opposing defenders easily neutralising his supposed strength, which puts into sharp focus his lack of contribution in other facets of the game. The complaint that we are inhibiting Andy Carroll's natural game by playing too many long balls is quite frankly comical.

I must confess I have my doubts about him, but I think he needs to be given a run of games before we judge him.
Aside from the start of the season (Sunderland and Arsenal games) when he wasn't fully fit, he's only had a couple of times where he's started back to back games. These were against Wolves and Everton where he played well in both games scoring in the latter, and Stoke Carling Cup game and West Brom game, again he scored in the latter game. Then there was the Chelsea Carling Cup game and last night. I think some of his better games have come when he's been allowed back to back starts, I think he's very much a confidence player and will improve when he's given a run in the side, whether he will reach the level required or not I guess only time will tell.
The problem being as I've said previously is that we tend to play a better style (and you could argue more effective style) of football when he doesn't play. Which makes this quite a dilemma especially as we are struggling for goals. If other players were knocking in goals consistently it would be much easier to make a case for giving Carroll a run of games. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think we just have to accept that we overpaid for the lad and presently he isnt equipped to lead the attack. hes still got plenty of time but he was dominated by senderos yesterday which wont do anything for his confidence.
the money has been invested so its now a case of sit back and give him time to find his feet. the coaching staff really need to work on his movement though because it is poor.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

It depends if the player was liked or not from day one these days. It's become ok to write a player off if you had doubts from the start.Originally posted by Alex View PostYou know what. If we ****ing backed him as passionately as a load of you seem to hate him. He might start putting in the goals. Jesus Wept. What happened to unconditional support?
School boy stuff from Glen & a howler from Pepe = Downing's retard and Carroll's ****.
