It doesn't, although it's always something that is going to be discussed.Originally posted by Alex View PostWhy do people focus on the fees so much? I guess the way you buy a car or a house, you should get what you pay for. I might expect more performance from a 50k car than say one I bought of an auction for £200.It's a prediction thread on a wish list.

The fee isn't his problem. Its something the clubs decided between each other. It has absolutely no bearing on ability. Suarez and Adam were bargains. But no one says there not very good because we didn't pay that much for them in comparison. Are you saying the club rated Adam as 7 times worse that Carroll, and thats why they paid that amount for him?
A transfer fee means **** all, but for a stick to beat someone with.*Except Michael, who died.

Downing reminds me the high school nerd in hollywood movies who has got a date with the hottest cheerleader and goes about doing all sorts of awkward stuff as is he is unsure of what to do.Originally posted by malg View PostDowning and Carroll thus far have been a real let down, and is a little scary how much they combined have cost. For a club like City, its not a complete failure, but for us 55million is a catastrophic event. If we sold both theses palyers we would be lucky to recoup 50%. But I do feel things need sorting, and we cannot afford to wait 6/18 months for both of them to maybe improve.
He is obviously better than what he is showing right now. Downing should take up some responsibility in an attacking sense. Just drive forward with the ball. Try to take on some players. Demand the ball occasionally. Be aggressive. On the rare occasions he has done that he has looked like a Liverpool player. Unfortunately on most occasions, he has been content giving a five yard pass to Enrique and let him do the work.

His best attacking play came with the ball on the ground. He also made a couple of runs that were ignored. It's a shame but we're not strong enough now to play 4-4-2 and don't have the man power for 4-2-3-1. We may have to adopt either to a 5-3-2 and utilize Agger and Skrtel's new found adventurism to add to the midfield or 4-3-3. Either way the attackers are going to have to work a lot harder by tracking back to help the midfieldOriginally posted by Exiled_red View PostIn fairness I thought he was alright last night, people seem to be suggesting that if we replaced him all our problems would be over. I think this is an over simplification, he's only getting one or two decent chances a game, it's not like we're creating chance after chance for him and he's missing sitter after sitter.
The problem with Carroll for me is not one of his own making, the biggest problem I see with Carroll is that his presence in the team tends to result in us playing a more direct style and launching balls up to him rather than relying on other aspects of the team game, such as short quick passing, movement off the ball, and 1-2's etc which players like Maxi, Bellamy and Suarez do so well. I prefer this short, quick passing style of play myself, and think that launching balls up to Carroll should be a 'plan B' used primarily late in games when we need goals.
That said, 5-3-2 would allow Carragher a way back in to the side, it'd beef up our defence and allow Johnson and Enrique to do what they seem to want to do most which is maraud forward. Stick Adam, Henderson and Bellamy/Maxi in the middle then Suarez and Carroll up front and we may have a decent line-up for the midterm

fair point
