    Same with Downing & Johnson

Agreed, althoug less frustrating for me as he was up against Richards that's a big RB, and it seemed like the plan yesterday was to put Carroll up against Clichy. But then recieving nothing when there must be frustrating.

He is just not good enough.

His awareness and footballing brain don't exist. Always flat footed, always making the wrong runs... and when he does run he does it in slow motion. Not to mention when the ball is at his feet it looks like a hot potato and he looks awkward.

Give me Bent and Defoe and sell him i say.

Also Adam is a lazy ******* and gets shown up when Lucas isnt there to clean up after him. And downing needs to give his head a wobble.

I wouldnt argue that he cant do more

My argument is that today he got no kind of reasonable service

Anyone suggesting he got cross after excellent cross put into him today is ****ing deluded

The only one for me was the Enrique ball which he knocked down for Kuyt

I thought he showed more in his all round game yesterday than he has in most other games, I thought he linked up well with people and won knock downs for people in dangerous areas. I think that this is an aspect of his game we can use better than we are at present, but IMO we need to get more men in the box to do it effectively (and pick up the knock downs). I can't recall him having a decent chance created for him yesterday though, the service was awful.

I mentioned this with respect to Downing as alot of people were critisising Downing for laying the ball off rather than crossing, with the way we play (and with Downing on the right in particular) when a winger gets into wide areas and there is only one man in the box but plenty people around the box often the better option is to lay the ball off rather than cross it. If we are wanting our wide players to deliver more crosses we have to get more men in the box to give us a better chance of doing something with them.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Serious question for all those who think our attacking play should centre around putting crosses in for Carroll - How many top teams in the PL and Europe use an old fashioned target man ??

I find it bizarre that the lad has been here a year now and arguably hasn't put in more than 1 good performance (City last season) and yet many of our fans believe we should abandon pass and move football just to accommodate a player that clearly doesn't have the skill, pace, movement or intelligence to make it a club that plays pass and move football.

I find it bizarre that someone could watch last nights game and claim he got good service

What is this good service nonsense that you keep going on about ? Magical pinpoint crosses on to AC's head or feet which he never has move to connect with ? Perhaps you have forgotten that at the start of the season we tried putting crosses in for Andy which he routinely missed and so we reverted back to pass and move football. And so the cycle begins again.

Gerrard, Bellamy, Johnson, Enrique, Downing and Henderson are all useless at crossing then ?? It's all their fault that Carroll isn't scoring ?? Is that what you seriously believe ?

Sorry mate but if you believe that then you are seriously delusional.

No you sir are seriously delusional

Gerrard, Bellamy et al might be able to cross the ball but they didnt do it well enough yesterday

At least not in the game I watched

A lot of our crosses hit the 1st man last night, a couple were over hit, I can't remember a ball being put in and thinking that we should have someone on the end of that.

The decent cross from Enrique Carroll won and set up Kuyt for a good chance

                      Indeed

Looks like we are both delusional

I remember thinking that Carroll was all alone in the penalty area several times when the cross was made. One man....pretty easy to mark....

OK I get it now. It's everybody's fault but Andy's. We have an entire squad of seasoned international players who don't know how to cross the ball.

                          Glad that's cleared up.

I don't think Andy Carroll was the primary reason we lost last night. I can immediately think of at least four players whose performances were markedly inferior and very few that were notably better.
                            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

A good striker would realise most of our crosses never beat the first man and proceed to BE the first man....

He his big and strong and can hit and head a ball. Everything else is none existent. He cant read the game.

The crosses keep hitting the first man because opposition defences know how to nullify the threat Carroll poses - when the ball is crossed just get between him and the ball - job done. If Andy had movement or intelligence in his locker then he would try something different than standing at the back post waiting for the ball .
