My point being that it's not about scoring lots of goals but just winning matches.

I don't care if Carroll scores once all season as long as he makes a consistent and meaningful contribution every time he plays.

Of course some people can't see past the goals scored column.

To be definite top 4/contenders I really think your two main attacking players need to score at around 1 in 3 at the least. I think Carroll might be made for the sort of team who have 4 strikers to share that burden - it was the method Spurs have tended to use and Fergusson often goes a similar route.

For all his faults, you can see he is trying and for me thats worth more than anything. Some players arent, so if he is, then he needs to play week in week out.

The problem with benching him is it puts focus on him 'for costing £35m and being a sub', and then when he plays there is further scrutiny as he 'needs to take his chance'.

He looks frustrated, the weight seems to be getting to him, but I still think he could come good for us, and I dont think we will sell him this summer.

I want to see him get a run out now.

On a side note, it was interesting how close the team seemed last night. Brad Jones 'save' got a lot of praise, for obvious reasons, and then Carrolls goal, they all seemed pleased for him.

Play him from the start in every game till end of the season and then we can judge. If he gets benched again I will be disappointed with Kenny

If you include sub appearances Dzeko, in a much more attacking and successful side has 17 in 53 games all competitions this season for Man City.
4 of those goals came in 1 game at Spurs early in the season.

Carroll doesn't compare badly to those at all when you factor he hasn't had a run of games and we constantly change systems and personal.

For me Carroll has been one of our better and more consistant players since Christmas, he should play more often than not rather than the other way around

Genius insight, how is his attitude questionable? not mobile enough? at the start of the season yep I think everyone would agree with you but now? absolute rubbish, you may prefer him to be more mobile but that doesn't mean he isn't mobile enough.
Carroll is as mobile if not more mobile than Dzeko or Berbatov for example.

As for technical ability you could argue that 90% of all english players don't have enough technical ability.
However when supplied with the right service Carroll has more than enough 'technical ability' to bring the ball down, hold it up and pass it off.

if it's a rafa team i'm guessing they won a lot of 1-0 games. we wouldn't necessarily need a prolific goalscorer, but we would need to concede a good deal less than a goal a game on average.

We had a good defensive record early on in the season though

I'm going to watch the whole game this afternoon as things didn't go to plan last night.

Was he really as good as people are saying? Seems to be an awful lot of revisionism for him to stay based on the game.

What should I look out for?
