needs to be written off, doesn't want to play for us and we can't get anyone to buy him. Real shame as he is clearly a talented footballer but he's just not one for us.

It wouldn't suprise me if we go for the lucky number 3Originally posted by rcasemore View Postfool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me comes to mind - 2 seasons in a row we've been taken for mugs

Same here. It was very clear this year and year before we could have used a player of his creativity and talent.Originally posted by Kenneth View Postif he can settle here for a year, may as well keep him.
Could not disagree more.Originally posted by Lecter View PostPeople talk about some of our current signings being the worst ever, for me Aquilani will rank right up there.
Aquilani started 12 games with us in all competitions (+13 sub appearances out of which 8 were after 75 minute or much later) and he scored 1 goal and had 6 assists.
Downing, on the other hand, started 35 games (+ 10 sub appearances) in all competitions and had 2 goals and 2 assists (Not a single one in PL).
Henderson started 41 game in all competitions (+7 sub appearances) and had 2 goals and 2 assists to his name.
Adam had 31 starts (+ 4 sub appearances) and he scored 2 goals and had 6 assists.
Given his productivity he was much better signing than any of our last year ones

Its about paying a fortune for an injured and injury prone player who subsequently became chronically homesick
Who we then had to let go back to Italy twice for daft loan deals and who eventually we will end up getting nothing for
No matter how **** our current midfielders are or arent they will have sell on values far in excess of Aquilanis
As a transfer Aquilanis will be ranked as a disaster
Oh and for all his productivity it hasnt persuaded Milan to part with the £6 million needed to purchase himBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

Just because he was injured when we bought him when he was injured does not mean he is injury prone because he really isn't. I agree that we shouldn't have bought him with his injury but Rafa wasn't know he was to become homesick.Originally posted by Lecter View PostWe paid £20 million for an injury prone player who at the time was injured
Shovking signing imo
One of Rafa's biggest mistakes
I was excited when we signed Aquilani, that season I was really 'into' football and I saw quite a lot of him for Roma, was never a goalscorer but was very useful behind the forwards, you'll probably scoff when you read this but he played in a very similar way to Silva and Mata, always looking to pick out that killer pass. When he was on form he was magic, and £20m was probably a fair price.
The loans on the other hand, they where ****. Mistakes made by Kenny and Hodgson in loaning him out, Kenny said he only loaned him out because he didn't fit into a 4-4-2 formation!
If you look at Aquilani's stats you will see he is an excellent passer of the ball, had over 80% pass completion last season and could have been very useful to us had we kept hold of him.
So like I said originally the signing of Aquilani wasn't a bad one, even though he was injured. But the loan deals by Hodgson and Kenny cost us on him, and we got shafted twice.
I hope he stays next season. The times they are a changin'.

didnt have almost a whole season out injured just before we bought him?
i think injury and the poor season for the club wrecked his confidence and happiness here. footballers careers are too short so i dont blame him for wanting to try again. if he didnt fancy it last summer, for him to stay on this season, he'd really have to have no offers for him.
expect him to sign for a mid-table italian side and us to never really hear of him again.
shame as he could definitely play. he definitely had the quality. but it just wasnt to be.

I knew as soon as I opened the page that is what you wrote.
.
Would you consider Cisse injury prone because he broke his leg twice? Aquilani's injurys camw from an ankle problem that he sorted out with an operation in his first couple of months with us.
Hasn't had a long injury lay off since. Fabio is injury prone, Aquilani isn't.The times they are a changin'.

Rafa bought an injured player who hadn't played a full season in 5 or 6 seasons!! He got very little assists and didn't score many goals & he can't tackle to save his life. Aqua was meant to be a more progressive replacement for Alonso.Originally posted by Gibbo9 View PostJust because he was injured when we bought him when he was injured does not mean he is injury prone because he really isn't. Aqua was injured for months & Rafa was wrapped in him cotton wool for some time afterwards. It was one of the worst signings in the history of the club & we have been getting shafted from day one.
Incredibly bad signing & incredibly bad business since then, embarrassing stuff.Last edited by danperkins; 14-05-12, 09:20 PM.

Knew you'd say that. I remember them and i also specifically remember 3 of those assists bouncing and ricocheting off opposition defenders, how on earth he got credited with them was beyond me. I know thise because he was in my fantasy football team.Originally posted by Gibbo9 View PostHe got 6 assists and 1 goal in the 12 games he started for us.
It is no coincidence that Liverpool, Juventus & now Milan didn't want him.

Look at the amount of games hes played 272 games in 10 years (I wont count the first season at Roma as he only played 2 games)
Thats an average of 27 games per season
Gerrard played 439 games in his first 10 seasons
Lucas has played 258 games in 8 seasons
Agger who I also class as injury prone has played 214 in 9 seasonsBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."
