aurelio and downing would work very well because fabio is first and foremost a full back and his secondary job is to get forward and support the attack. he would support downing and not detract from him.

enrique thinks his wide player should be playing for him and he should be the one getting forward while downing sits. really, enrique should play with kuyt and downing would be better off with johnson.

maxi and enrique would also work well because maxi isnt going to run down the flank amd whip it in, but he could find a penetrative pass for enrique.

but one things clear enrique wont play for downing.
But he has been playing on the right most of the season.

Downing would probably love this as an excuse as he certainly seems willing to hide behind other people on the pitch

He's defensively solid, pacy, and doesn't jump in, but he hasn't impressed me going forward particularly. Tries to do too much, dwells on the ball, and often plays the wrong ball.

Now I can't stand Downing so I'd prefer to bring someone in that can work well with Enrique than the other way round but it does make you wonder whether Stewie would perform better with Aurelio playing.

Enrique isn't great going forward. He helps with regard to keeping the width of the pitch, but he should not be whipping crosses in. He should just keep the ball and maintain the width. Alan Pardew said it himself that Enrique doesn't cross the ball. When he does it here, they are terrible.

That being said, it should be Downing doing the attacking work. He showed promise against Man City and Man Utd, before seeing the rock and seeking refuge underneath it once again.

We need a winger who can mix things up a bit if he is to play for Enrique. Either that, or Enrique should stick to what he did best at Newcastle, defend first and if he is to attack, hold the width and keep possession only.

I'd still consider another winger in the summer on top of a right winger.

I like Enrique, but the one problem I have with him is that often he tries to do too much himself. Too often he ignores the simple option.

As regards a partnership down the left side, as I've said before I think he needs a dominant personality in the left wing position, someone who tells him what to do, someone who demands the ball and someone who gives him **** when he chooses the wrong option. This is why I think he works better with Bellamy than he does with Downing. Downing is to passive a personality to do these things, and lets Enrique get away with doing whatever he wants.

But Downing has been playing on the right wing for most of this season. Its either been Maxi or Bellamy that has been on the left.

Downing has played much more on the left than he has on the right

with him you do it two ways. either you have a really strong winger who tells him what to do or you buy someone who will play to his strengths.

downing isnt a big personality and he isnt a left sided solid type midfield player like a james milner or somebody so enrique just does what he pleases which isnt good for the team

A half decent player with a set of bollocks would just take charge of the situation and take it on his own shoulders

Unfortunately Downing doesnt fit into either category

maybe you're right and its a dead loss.

but it doesnt bode well for the future. we've got raheem sterling coming through who plays on the left and he's an out and out winger. ideally you need someone who will help him and play for him which again enrique wont do.

whatever problems downings having sterling will too.

theres others like suso who's a left footer and actually he might be a better bet because he's got a sweet left foot and he will play enrique in. Even adjoran's a good shout for the left because he's got a really good range of passing too.

but i think its clear that enrique cannot play with an out and out attacking wide player.

I'll will take your word for it as I have no stats to show something that I have noticed. However, that still don't detract from that fact that he has scored no goals nor provided any assist this season. He doesn't pass his markers enough and he doesn't cross the ball with enough quality. So as a winger/attacking player in the team what has been his contribution?
