Okay, where to begin. Will start with the fact that you say Downing is the reason we are dropping points. How is this? Is he to blame for Suarez missing chances and us conceding goals against teams that we should be beating.

I believe Downing was bought to supply Carroll, when Carroll doesn't play Downing doesn't have anyone to aim at, on occasions he can hit the first man, there is no doubt about that and no-one is saying he isn't but it is by no means his fault we are drawing games.

He tries to get into crossing positions and him and Enrique have former a good partnership down out left hand side.

The only times to me Downing has struggled is when deployed on the right.

agree with this............downing if anything has gone backwards,he's like harry kewell .....flatters to decieve .....fails to deliver..........good at his last club **** for lfc....signed for a **** load of money

Guarantee you that if he had stayed at Villa he would have scored goals and got plenty of assists this season. At LFC however he has contributed **** all. As I said in an earlier post his mind set is not suited to a club with big expectations and ambitions. The lad is a total bottler.

I never said that Downing was THE reason we have been dropping points but yes his continual starting is a big part of the problem. You can make as many excuses as you like but the fact of the matter he has started every league game but 1 and has a grand total of 0 goals and 0 assists.
For a 27 year old that cost 20 million that isn't good enough. Surely you can see that.

Gibbo, the majority of the good work on the left hand side is done by Enrique. He's the one doing the defending, playing neat passes forward and getting to the byline.

Downing can't hit a barn door. He had three decent opportunities and he scuffed all three, including the only one that hit the target. He was the big signing of the summer and has zero goals and zero assists this season. Not good enough. How many times did he take on Richards today? He ran at him a couple of times, only to cross early without getting by his man.

Of course he can turn it around and perhaps he will, who knows ? I'm basing my conclusions on his form before he joined us and since then at both club level and international level.

Players have proved me wrong before like Lucas and perhaps Downing will too.

I thought he played well today. Disciplined deep and created chances when he got up the other end. Not sure that we can accommodate him and Henderson in the team when we put Kuyt so far away from Henderson though. We need at least one more goal threat in the team I think when that happens.

has he not? with better finishing he could have at least 6 or 7 assists right now. like beckham he has the ability to get a cross in without beating his man. i just wish he'd grab the ball more often and take charge a little, he needs a punch in the face to get him angry. that or a goal and some confidence. we played well today and he played his part. i'm not giving up on him yet.

Lucas, Gerrard, Suarez and Agger are our most important players in my opinion. Deciding the order of that is another matter.

Add Reina too. A great goalkeeper is vital. Look what's happened to Cech since his various knocks on the head, and how Chelsea look all over the place at the back. Excellent keepers can save a lot of points.

I think Bellamy being rested from the match squad today changed our plans a little bit. He's not a natural in front of goal that is clear but he played pretty well today all things considered.

I think Bellamy would have played ahead of Downing today, but we had to change the plan a bit. I think Downing will do better when Carroll plays, he did ok today but I think he finds it easier to hit someone like Carroll than Suarez or Kuyt.

That said I thought Downing did quite well today. I think he's just been unlucky, if he had 1 or 2 goals and 2 or 3 assists, which he easily could have had, people might not be so hard on him.
