has he not? with better finishing he could have at least 6 or 7 assists right now. like beckham he has the ability to get a cross in without beating his man. i just wish he'd grab the ball more often and take charge a little, he needs a punch in the face to get him angry. that or a goal and some confidence. we played well today and he played his part. i'm not giving up on him yet.

but then why doesn't he ......this is his one and only chance at a big club......like harry kewell he's been a star for his former club and so far has failed to deliver....your right he needs a foot up his ass ......you don't get many chances at a big club he needs to perform like he did for villa which is why we signed him.....as i said in my earlier post it's early in his lfc career we know what he can do lets hope he can deliver

the same form shown over the years at villa ...some assists and goals........he's not a freshie he's at the peak of his career now!granted it's early in his lfc career but he's not shown anything similiar to his villa form

I can cut Henderson a lot of slack (though I think Maxi should have played today) because he's very young and is just making his way in the game, whereas Downing should be at the peak of his powers. Granted he has got to acclimatise to an environment in which there is added pressure to succeed and more scrutiny, but he's a full international and has a lot of experience.

It was more injury problems that let Kewell down, when he did play for us he played well.

That's the point - he's played in the Prem for most of his career, is an Ingerlund international & at 27 should be at the peak of his career ffs!
Like others have mentioned Henderson & Carroll also haven't been great BUT they are nowhere near at their peak & are nowhere near as experienced as Downing so they should be afforded some time & patience...

He needs to be given time to settle and integrate into the team and the way we play. He's getting better though.

Said it before and I will say it again, Downing just does not have the mentality to play for a club like Liverpool. He has had ample opportunity and has simply failed to impose himself in any games. He has also wasted glorious opportunities to score, but he is not alone there tbf to him.

I think Maxi can count himself very hard done by to not start or even get any game time today.

Never rated Downing but today was one of his better performances for us.

I don't think he's anywhere near good enough for us but we need to get behind him. He looks completely bereft of confidence.

hes not doing enough but hes not terrible like its being made out, when someone has a quiet game nothing gets said when downing has 1 everyone goes nuts

I think his enrique partnership is turning into a negative 1, hes uses him too much and they stand too close can easily mark the both with 1 player at times, needs to find more space

I dont get that he is meant to be really really quick, but never seems to want to run at the opposition. The best work he has done is plating in Enrique. Thats not enough for a £20m man.

I sort of sympathise that when he does cross we have no one in the box. But for that fee, you expect a player to adapt. I guess its still early, but at his age and experience, if he has not found his feet by the end of the season, we should get rid

I think we need at least one player on the wing that can run with the ball, as Suarez cant do it all himself. It adds a bit of variety as all we can do at the moment is pass it about, and when teams pack the defence it is hard to find an opening unless a player can beat his man.
