How many other crosses did he put in against QPR? genuine question...

I havn't seen the stats from yesterday, but as of current Downing have created the second most chances for us from open play only outdone by Suarez, who have played a lot more minutes.

                Was Adam's cross I think.
                3rd place. Worst champions ever.

No, it was Downing in the opening minutes of the match who crossed from the right for Suarez who headed straight at the keeper. Adam crossed for the goal of course.
                  .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Downing has put in a few decent crosses like that and of course the forward (whoever that might be) has ****ed it up sensationally

Must admit I'm not a big fan of Downing's but he looked ok on Saturday and at times he does put some really decent crosses in

Pity hes not been consistant enough in this

Mins Per Completed Cross: AR 95, SD 47
Mins per Chance Created: AR 58, SD 36
Attacking Half Pass Completion: AR 67%, SD 72%
Touches per Minute: AR 0.77, SD 0.70
Mins per completed dribble: AR 37, SD 127

So that's 6 key metrics for wide players and Downing wins 4-2 including 3 most important ones.
And considering Riera was in the best*#LFC*side for 20 years they can only paint Downing in a good light.

I would have said Riera was more impressive than Downing. But those figures would indicate otherwise
The thing is that context is, if not everything, very important. Riera was doing a specific role in a team where that job was vital. His hugging of the touch line allowed space for Torres, Gerrard and Kuyt (from the right) to prosper. Currently we don't have a pairing in the middle providing danger or a player on the opposite flank high up often enough (and the midfield operates deeper). When he stays wide Downing is often a bit pointless. He needs to position himself in a less wide position more often - like Bale has done after the first few games this season.

I like Downing and think he would have been great in that Rafa team but currently I don't see him as quite fitting what we need. If Carrol or another attacking player with physical presence came into the team that might be different. Hopefully Downing will tweak his game and all will be well.

I was talking about the goal though. Was I talking about the wrong thing?

I wondered if you were thinking of the goal but yes, I think the discussion was about who crossed for Suarez's first header.

A case of crossed wires as well as crossed balls (sounds painful).

Thought Stewie did ok yesterday, some nice one two's going with team mates to open up space, and some intelligent passes to players making runs, he's been a bit unlucky really, a few of the crosses he's put in of late should have been converted into goals.

This may be opening a can of worms, but is Downing better on the right side?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

He contributes as much from the right side as he does from the left.
