Have to admit I was disappointed when I saw he was over on the right hand side, but then he went on to have one of his best games so far for us, so what do I know. Plus the front 4 were interchanging a fair amount anyway so it's not as if he was stuck out on the right the whole time.

Was class in that first half, must wonder what he's got to do to get an assist though, an insane amount of chances he creates get missed.

any decent striker would love to play with downing. he is direct, has a sweet left foot and is a constant threat. the lack of a proper finisher in our ranks has made his contribution work look much worse than it should be

Lets hope so, but I think he's been so unlucky, he's delivered quite a few goo crosses but the players on the end of them have let him down. For example the cross he delivered right on Suarez' head in the middle of the 6 yard box only for him to head straight at the keeper. That has been happening far too often this season.

Looks better on the right where he has the option of coming inside and linking up play as well as being a goal threat. Too one dimensional on the left and the link up between him and Enrique is pretty poor. Has o lot of competition from Bellers and Maxi though.

They're totally different players for me. Stewart downing is an out and out winger while Mata is a little ginger ****er...sorry, I meant a creative link up player that can play any forward position bar striker.

Malouda would be a better comparison to Downing.

Yip. Mata's done all his best work for Chelsea inside. Him and Torres would be deadly if Chelsea can invent a time machine. He first touch and vision to send a forward through on goal is superb.

Maxi would be a good comparison to Mata. Craig's point still stands though, the whole 'premiership proven' and 'foreigners take longer to settle' bollocks is just a ****ing myth.
