Downing struggled at Villa first season as well. I believe if he stays he'll do well next year.

As often said, we're it not for a bit of luck he could easily be on 8 goals and 8 assists.

Downing is clearly a confidence player and as such should never have been purchased, but I believe it to be unlikely that he will be so unlucky two seasons on the bounce if he sticks around.

A confident Downing is a very good player, it's up to the manager and a bit of luck to get him in the right frame of mind. I think Dalglish backed him well, the luck just hasn't fallen for him.

Downing has never been more than average across his career. He'll look good in a team near the bottom, that is it. He has low assist and goal stats for a good reason (3.9 and 2.6 p/s over his career).

we have fallen into the trap of diving in to buy players who look good, but failed to consider that they might have just had a season that was way above their normal best. several factors may have contributed to this wow season, but once they come to us they have slipped back into mediocrity.

whether comoli or kenny was responsible for the assessing of these targets, and the background research, we might never know the full story. we must ensure better scouting and more thorough assessing of players is done before the cheque book gets opened.
removing all the weak links makes us stronger

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

          Do you really believe that?
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

The thought of Downing stinking up Anfield next season is a depressing one.

And yes, Downing is an in and out player.

                Mostly out.

I don't blame him tbh, we are Liverpool FC - 5 time European winners and 18 time league winners. Since the end of last season we have basically become Martin O'Neil's Aston Villa - a largely British squad that languishes somewhere between mid table and top 4. That is not the Liverpool FC I know and love.

It's one thing feeling disillusioned with the team and manager but it's quite another to say you're considering throwing the towel in.
Forgive me for misconstruing Nick but it didnt read like that

"if he is at this club next season I will be watching another sport because it infuriates that such a piece of ****e is not only wearing the beloved Red shirt"

I reiterate again. I cant stand Downing I want him gone but nothing and no-one would diminish my support for the club

Even if LFC were relegated I'd support them through thick and thin.

Thats it, I'm a scouser its in my blood. Nothing would ****ing change that

I'm not a glory hunter and wont let anything dictate support for my club

To me support of LFC is unconditional

That to me is what being a supporter is, no matter how **** they are you still support them

It doesnt mean you have to like everyone at the club or agree with every policy but the support of the club as a whole is absolutely unconditional

Anyone who says any different isnt a genuine supporter imo

                    Yeah, that's a cunt of a comment.

I don't like Downing and I think he's ****. But as long as he's here I'm hoping he scores a goal a game and adds plenty of assists to the team.

Not supporting the team because of one player. **** me.

I think he is fine for a Villa team in the low half of the league, looks so out of place with us.

IMO he'd fit right in at Blackburn because hes an out and out chicken, both physically & mentally
Bad buy from day one and no one can't say that writing wasn't on the wall.

He is not a right fit and you cannot hide in a team of our size.

If we all chipped in we could get him kidnapped and held hostage for the rest of his contract if he's still here come August? GSFDKF?

We need balance and he can provide that but it means that someone is going to have to come in off the right and be spectacular every match. At present we dont have this sort of player. Even if downing was shifted to the right and enabled johnson to push on we would still need someone electric on the left and then we would have the even bigger issue of him playing with enrique who is no help to anyone in front of him.
