I wonder how we'd all feel if Hodgson had said about a player he inherited what Rodgers has said about Downing..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

The difference is that Hodgson criticised someone like Glen Johnson, one of our best players at the time (and still is).
Rodgers has criticised Downing and Enrique...enough said.
Downing hasn't helped himself in his response, talking about tackling when it's obvious he means the pressing game. If he can't or won't do it, then there's no place for him.

My hatred for Stuart Downing grows with every stupid comment he makes... just shut up man.
He literally is Mr.Persecuted, can't wait until he is sold..waster. Plain fact of the matter is he has been an absolute epic failure!!! And that is nobody
else's fault but his own....seems he can't accept that.Last edited by danperkins; 07-10-12, 11:55 AM.

Hatred for one of our own players. ****ing hell by all means dislike him for playing **** but I just don't get this hatred. Is it the fee that is adding to this? If he cost a mill would you feel better? People should not read so much into articles or comments printed in the press from players. They're hardly ever taken in right context. Players and managers can't win ever these days. If they comment it's wrong and if they say nothing they don't care.Originally posted by danperkins View PostMy hatred for Stuart Downing grows with every stupid comment he makes... just shut up man.

The hatred comment was clearly in jest... simply put i think he's ****ing ****e and an embarrassing footballer, he could have cost 50 cent and i'd still think he's a lilly livered waste of spaceOriginally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostHatred for one of our own players. ****ing hell by all means dislike him for playing **** but I just don't get this hatred. It's not really about whether the criticism is justified, it's about criticising players in public. Hodgson was criticised for that, as well as for the substance of his comments on players like Johnson and Agger.Originally posted by Phoenix07 View PostThe difference is that Hodgson criticised someone like Glen Johnson, one of our best players at the time (and still is).

I'm not defending Downing's performances or the fee we paid, let alone Bronto Bodge, but it seems to me that the attacks on Downing for responding to the manager's public criticism in a fairly muted way are unfair. You've just confirmed it - you, like most people here, don't mind the manager going public so long as you agree with it. That's your (and their) prerogative but let's not hear too much about keeping things in-house or "the Liverpool way" any more..

By the way this isn't the first time Downing has made comments like this, so it's not just him responding to the manager publicly. He has made several comments since at LFC defending himself, saying he's disappointed to be left out of the team, working hard etc blah blah blah. It doesn't take Brendan Rogers to make a comment about Downing for Downing to blab to the press and give his sob story. He does not accept any responsibility for his failings & that is frustrating as a supporter.

FFS, listen to yourself. You're complaining because he's said he disappointed not to be playing and he's going to work hard to win back a place. What an appalling attitude.Originally posted by danperkins View PostBy the way this isn't the first time Downing has made comments like this, so it's not just him responding to the manager publicly. he has made several comments since at LFC defending himself, saying he's disappointed to be left out of the team, working hard etc blah blah blah. And there's a difference between the manager singling out a player for criticism and a player talking about his feelings about not being in the team.Last edited by Neil Young; 07-10-12, 12:14 PM..

fair enough.
I think he's far from an embarrassing footballer. Just wish he had a pair of balls he bought to every game. He's shown on occasions he has. Just not anywhere often enough. It's obvious he'll be leaving, so it will be good if we can get some more performances like Thursday out of him. Regardless of what some thought but that was a perfectly acceptable level of play to enable him to assist the team.Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back. Oscar Wilde
