Really annoyed with him aswell though. He's giving nothing more than 10% and almost cost us the game. He's weak, wet and the sooner he's gone the better for all parties.

Am I missing something? I thought he did well enough at LB without setting the world alight. I'm more comfortable with him at LB (until Wisdom returns and Johnson switches) then seeing Enrique go back there and dilly dally on the ball. :shudders:

He was awful, a liability at LB. Basically he is ****, but tbf he is not alone there in this team. We have too many who are not up to Liverpool FC standard.

Define LFC standard. We're currently an above average team battling it out for europa league football. The sooner people realise this the better.

What players out there are better than those who you've listed, and would be regarded as a realistic transfer target?

We cannot afford to splash excessive amounts of cash on players anymore, this includes wages.

I agree Downing isn't good enough, but we have to stick with him because we cannot attract a big name player to take his place. We would just be trading like for like in most cases.

If you compare most of our team it isn't "LFC standard" for what we have known in the last 5-7 years. And its on a parallel with what level of football we are playing.

For example 5 years ago we were qualifying for back to back champions league campaigns and had the players to show it. A central midfield of Alonso, Mascherano and Gerrard is 10 times better than our current central midfield of Allen, Shelvey and Gerrard.

We have top players such as Reina, Agger, Skrtel, Gerrard, Lucas, Johnson and Suarez. Most of which have been here since the "rafa period" and on long term contracts. Only Suarez hasn't. That's one player from the 15+ that have been signed since we dropped as a champions league contender.

I completely get that, which is why I keep on going back to the whole ownership issue. We are becoming a run of the mill mid-table team and until FSG give BR the finances to compete (and I mean in January) by next summer we are really going to struggle to recruit quality players.

We are on a downward spiral which at this juncture needs some emergency treatment, in the form of a transfer budget and spend that is going to give this team and club a lift.

I'll tell you how **** Downing's been for us right. In 20-30 year time (assuming the earth hasn't gone spiralling into the sun) when the kids of tomorrow are going 'he's ****... He's ****... He's ****' about whichever player happens to be underperforming in that seasons rollerball matches we'll be able to turn round and say 'you think he's ****! Well we had to put up with Stewart Downing!'

The kid has reached a level of uselessness that will be talked about for generations. He's ****ing terrible... And we paid £20 million for him

We've wasted so much money on the likes of Aquilani, Carroll and Downing. Can't help feeling that Downing is the worst signing we've made. He's a complete dope, wasn't worth £20 let alone £20m. I would rather have signed that giraffe from Knowsley Safari Park.
